Benedicte Vannini, Herbalist I am a registered medical herbalist, providing consultation to help you support your health In practice, it is a little more than that.

By definition, an herbalist is someone using medicinal plants to help alleviate symptoms. I believe that every symptom is a message from your body, telling you that something is not right and it needs to be fully dealt with and not silenced. Therefore, my approach of health, like every herbalist, is holistic. It means considering a person in his/her physical, psychological, social and emotional wholeness.

Can you guess what I am?
I will give you a hint! I am very popular in medieranean cuisine, I have been used traditionnaly for century as an immune modulator, anti-viral, anti-bacterian, anti-fungul and anti-inflammatory. I am like a magic herb! I taste delicious in tea and a must have in winter.

Today we are harvesting our yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) or Poire de terre en français.
This great plant is one of the easiest to grow, to store and it is delicious.
This sweet tuber is delicious cooked or raw, rich in inuline which is a great prebiotic. Yacon tuber is a good anti-inflammatory, immune booster and great alternative to potatoes for diabetic people.
It is as well full of water (yacon means ''root of water'') mineral such as potassium and magnesium, vit A, B1 and 2.
So many goodness in this forgotten veggie! So if you haven't yet, find some to try it and plant it in your garden!
