Knots & Tangles Kids

Knots & Tangles Kids Developmental Occupational Therapy We help children achieve their optimum developmental, physical, social and academic potential.

At Knots and Tangles Kids we work with children who have various developmental delays whether they have a formal diagnosis or not. Full assessment is available to create an individualised therapy plan for your child. Therapy sessions are play based in our custom made sensory-integration studio. We work closely with families and schools to support children to help them on their journey to become th

e best they can be. We work with children aged 3-13 who may or may not have a diagnosis. We frequently work with children with (but not limited to):

• Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger’s Syndrome
• Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder
• Handwriting difficulties
• Sensory integration and sensory processing difficulties
• Dyspraxia
/Developmental Coordination Disorder
• Learning Difficulties
• Social Skills Difficulties
• Feeding difficulties and fussy eaters
• Visual Perceptual difficulties
• Other delayed fine/gross motor skill difficulties

We feel there are many children out there who fall through the cracks. While they may not have a diagnosis, parents or teachers may notice that they are not reaching their potential. The child may require short term intervention to help them on their way.

Brilliant graphics!

Students DON’T learn to ‘calm down’ by being told to calm down. They need to be taught ways to label their feelings (stop, name that feeling, do something about it).

"We rationalise that if starting soccer at five years of age is a good idea, then starting at two must be even better. That enrolling our children in art class is more productive than drawing with chalk on the driveway. That playing in a baseball team hones skills more effectively than casually hitting a ball at the park on sunday afternoon with a group of friends and made up rules......We need to give them the space and freedom that a simple childhood provides and then support them by making opportunities available when they show an interest. We need to release the pressure, guilt and obligation we put on ourselves to give our children more than they need; organised activities can be wonderful and our son participates in a select few, but it’s healthiest as an a-la-carte experience not an all-you-can-eat buffet."

Our kids' schedules are busier than ever! But they need downtime. Let's protect our children's mental health today by simplifying childhood today.

On my wish list! This enables far more creative play with vestibular and proprioceptive input than the average swing set!

Now that's a bit of fun! You can also use shaving cream, paint, flour or just a stick in the sand (a pencil in kinetic sand works well too)! Chalk on the driveway, paint on the inside of the shower, there's lots of motivating ways to practice writing and drawing without a pencil!
