Meet Hannah — from an Optometry student on placement to a First Class Honours Optometrist — Hannah has been part of the Matthews team since 2024, and we’re very glad she decided to stick around!

Hannah is our Dry Eye Guru and is passionate about full-scope optometry, ocular health, and making sure her patients get the continuity of care they deserve. She’s also therapeutically qualified, meaning there’s very little she can’t tackle when it comes to keeping eyes happy and healthy.
When she’s not in the clinic, you’ll most likely find her planning her next trip — basically anywhere that involves adventure, fresh air, or being underwater! 😎

Meet Elizabeth - Elizabeth joined the Matthews family in 2022 as an Optometrist after graduating from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Optometry, with First Class Honours!

Therapeutically qualified, Elizabeth can prescribe medication to treat a range of eye conditions. She enjoys working with patients of all ages to find personalised eye-care solutions - whether that means improving vision, managing eye health, or helping someone finally admit that the menu isn't printed too small. 😉
Outside the clinic, Elizabeth can usually be found exploring the outdoors or tackling her latest crochet creation, proving she has an eye for detail both on and off the clock. 😎

Meet Elaine - With 30 years of experience as an Optometrist, Elaine knows a thing or two about keeping eyes happy and healthy!

She holds a therapeutic qualification, allowing her to prescribe medications for certain eye conditions. She is also registered to perform CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) eye examinations.
When Elaine is not focused on great vision, you'll often find her enjoying one of her many forms of dance - proving she has an eye for detail and some seriously good moves! 😎

Meet Niel - One of our Optometrists. With over 45 years of experience in optometry ( yes, you read that right!), Niel brings a wealth of knowledge to the team - along with plenty of stories from the days when he owned his own practice and used a lot more paper than computers. 😜

Niel loves travelling, photography, and resistance training. When he is not examining your eyes, there's a good chance he's either lifting something heavy, chasing the perfect light, or planning his next adventure.
With decades of experience, we are very lucky to have Niel on our team! 😎
