Weekend Wrap - The Ladies

In a big game against the top of the table New Plymouth Old Boys’ Hockey Club White, the New Wave Ultrasound Wildcats took to the turf with a rearranged structure aiming to counter NPOB's strength. Throughout the game our girls kept up a lot of pressure, pushing hard for the ball. Despite a number of opportunities with PCs and crosses to strikers, the score stayed even through the first three quarters. With things getting tense, Grace connected with a ball from Vic late in the final quarter to get us on the scoreboard. From there we held our cool, defending our line to hold on for a 1-0 win.

The New Wave Ultrasound Ruru took on Toko R.F.C Ladies in Stratford. This game was played mostly between the 25's with the occasional foray into the circles, with neither team giving way, a couple PC's each was the only action in respective circles. Deep into the last quarter, Ruru gathered momentum from sharp interplay through the midline resulting in a goal. Although this swung the pendulum of possession the Ruru way, the ladies were unlucky not to add to the score ending with a 1 -nil win.

A hot day in NP greeted both teams for the 12:30 Hawks v Te Kiri Hockey Club game, but our girls came out even hotter, moving the ball from side to side, keeping the opposition busy and we were up 2-0 early.
The second quarter was another goody, a third goal quickly cancelled out by one to Te Kiri however.
In the last two quarters, the Hawks absorbed pressure well & despite conceding a late goal, came away with a well deserved 3-2 win over the previously top of the table coastal team.

Ever have a day where things don't quite go your way?
That describes the late game for the Tuis, sort of felt like we were running in quicksand and getting nowhere fast. Credit to Ngamotu who got up 1-0 early however our young ladies showed resilience to strike back in the second quarter and from there things just muddled along to finish as a draw. Ruby showed some good stuff up-front & Natalie got a great break late to give us a shot at the game winning goal - we'll blame hubby Jeremey for not getting the iPad out quick enough for her not scoring.
