Te Pou Oranga o te Whakatōhea Whanau Ora, Hapu Ora, Ka Ora ai te Iwi
"When the whānau are well, the Iwi will thrive"

11/08/2026

Mā te whakamahi e ora ai te reo.

Ia kupu ka whakapuakina, he pitomata o te reo e kawe ana ki te anamata.
Te kōrero ki ngā tamariki, ki te kāinga, ki te mahi hoki.

Ehara i te mea me mōhio koe ki te katoa kia timata i tēnei haerenga; ahakoa he iti he pounamu.

Whānau ora, hapū ora, ka ora ai te iwi.
____________________________________

Reo lives when we use it.

Every kupu spoken is another thread carried forward.
At home, at mahi, with our tamariki, around the table.

You don't need to know everything to begin.
Sometimes one kupu today becomes a whole kōrero tomorrow.

Whānau ora, hapū ora, ka ora ai te Iwi

Ko wai au?

He nui ake tō tuakiritanga i tō ingoa. Ka ora tonu i tō whakapapa, i roto hoki i ngā kōrero hīanga a ngā kaumātua.

----------------------------------------

Who am I?

Our identity lives in more than our name.

It lives in our whakapapa. In the reo we hear from our kaumātua. In the places that feel like home. In the stories carried by our whānau.

When we strengthen our connection to who we are, we strengthen the foundations of our wellbeing.

Whānau ora, Hapū ora, Ka ora ai te Iwi

Join Te Pou Oranga Whaiora | Walk alongside whānau on their journey to healing

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.

At Te Pou Oranga Whaiora, we believe healing begins with connection.

As a kaupapa Māori, two-tier addiction recovery service delivered under the korowai of Whakatōhea in partnership with the Eastern Bay Iwi Provider Alliance, we walk alongside whaiora and their whānau as they reconnect with themselves, their identity and their future.

Our mahi is grounded in whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and rangatiratanga. Every day we create safe spaces where hope can grow, relationships can be restored, and whānau are supported to reclaim their own pathway to oranga.

Our Whare Oranga is more than supported accommodation. Nestled amongst the whenua, moana, awa and ngahere of Whakatōhea, the natural environment becomes part of the healing journey, nurturing wellbeing ā tinana, ā hinengaro, ā wairua hoki.

If you're looking for more than just a job and want to be part of a team committed to meaningful, whānau-centred change, we'd love to hear from you.

Nō tātau, mō tātau, e ai ki a tātau.

By us, for us, according to us.

✨ Manawatia a Matariki ✨
Matariki is more than the beginning of a new year. It is a time to pause, remember, celebrate, and look forward together as Whakatōhea.

Ka maumahara tātou | We remember

We honour those who have journeyed beyond the veil since the last rising of Matariki. We remember the aroha they shared, the wisdom they passed on, and the footprints they have left for us to follow. Though they may no longer walk beside us, they remain woven into our whakapapa and live on through us.

Ka whakanui tātou | We celebrate

Matariki is a time to gather with whānau, to share kai, laughter, waiata, kōrero and games. It reminds us that our greatest strength has always been each other. Through coming together, we strengthen our connections, celebrate our achievements, and give thanks for the abundance that surrounds us.

Ka anga whakamua tātou | We look to the future

As the stars rise, so too do our aspirations. Matariki invites us to reflect on the future we are creating—not just for ourselves, but for our tamariki and mokopuna.

What legacy will we leave?

What stories will they tell about us?

How will our actions today strengthen Whakatōheatanga for generations yet to come?

As Te Tāwharau o Te Whakatōhea, our commitment is to continue serving our whānau, hapū and iwi so that together we can realise our shared vision:

Tū Ake Whakatōhea — We are united, connected and thriving as Whakatōhea.

This Matariki, may we honour those who came before us, cherish the people beside us, and walk with purpose towards the future we are building together.

✨ Manawatia a Matariki. Mānawatia te tau hou Māori.

Hōngongoi | Te Tīmatanga Hou 🌿

The beginning of a new season. The beginning of new opportunities.

As Matariki rises, we are reminded that every new year starts by knowing where we have come from and being intentional about where we are heading.

This month, you'll find opportunities to learn, connect, celebrate, strengthen your wellbeing, and deepen your connection to Whakatōhea.

Whether you're here in the rohe or living afar, there is a place for you in the kaupapa. This month's calendar is filled with opportunities for our people to come together, support one another, and continue building the future we want for our mokopuna.

🌿 Te Puna o Tarawa is reopening.

Sometimes new beginnings grow from life's biggest challenges.

After months of planning, preparation and the unwavering commitment of our kaiako and kaimahi, we are delighted to welcome our tamariki and whānau back to Te Puna o Tarawa from Monday, 29 June at our new home:
📍 104 Richard Street, Ōpōtiki

This reopening is about more than a new building. It's about creating a safe, nurturing space where our tamariki can learn, grow and flourish, surrounded by aroha, manaakitanga and the strength of our community.

To every whānau who has stood alongside us throughout this journey, thank you. Your patience, encouragement and belief in our kaupapa have helped make this possible.

We can't wait to welcome both familiar and new faces through our doors.
