Why can nervous system support be so important in cases of recurring viral infection?
The nervous system and immune system are intrinsically linked, with chronic stress a common factor in activating latent viruses.
A latent virus is one that after initial exposure, lays dormant in your cells, non replicating and non symptomatic.
That is until factors like chronic stress/ HPA axis dysfunction activates the virus/viruses, and you become symptomatic again.
Not all viruses become latent, some you have the acute infection and that is that.
But common viruses belonging to the herpes family do (HSV-1, HSV 2, Varicella zoster), as well as EBV and CMV.
The gift that keeps on giving.
Latent virus reactivation is a very good example of when 'oh, it's just a virus', is a little deeper than that.
