A new chapter for Chester Burt Funerals

As part of the Lychway Group, Chester Burt Funerals is entering an exciting new chapter alongside Lychway Funeral Directors.

On Thursday 13 August, ownership of the Lychway Group officially passed to Glenn Davies, Elisha Hart and Gayle Smart.

While the ownership may be new, our commitment to the families and communities we serve remains exactly the same.

Glenn and Elisha have both been part of the Lychway Group for years, caring for families throughout the Manawatū and Tararua regions and helping shape the standard of care we provide. Gayle now joins them in ownership, bringing her own experience, strengths and commitment to the future of the group.

Chester Burt Funerals has a proud history of caring for families throughout Dannevirke and the wider Tararua community, and we understand the importance of protecting the relationships, trust and reputation that have been built over many years.

We are incredibly grateful to the Procter family for the trust they have placed in us to carry the Lychway Group forward and acknowledge the years of dedication, hard work and care that have gone into building the businesses we are now privileged to lead.

We also remember the late Graeme Procter, whose knowledge, leadership and commitment helped shape the Lychway Group and the people within it. Although Graeme is not here to see this next chapter begin, his influence and legacy will remain an important part of our businesses for many years to come.

As we move forward, our commitment is simple, to respect the history and individuality of each of our funeral homes while continuing to grow, evolve and provide the highest standard of care to every family who places their trust in us.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sophie Oswald, aged 23. Sophie passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on 22 June 2026.
Sophie was an adored daughter of Rita and Phil (deceased), a beloved sister to Jade, Katie, and Anna, and a dearly loved granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend.
Known for her incredible sense of humour and goofy personality, Sophie had a special gift for making people laugh. With her quick wit and ability to find fun in everything she did, she brought joy to everyone around her. Deeply loved by her family, friends, and the wider community, Sophie will always be remembered for the laughter, happiness, and unforgettable memories she shared.
Forever loved and forever missed, our Sophie. ❤️
All are warmly welcome to join us as we celebrate and remember Sophie’s life. Sophie’s tangi will be held on Sunday 28 June at 10:00am at Tararua College, Churchill Street, Pahiatua.

Today, on ANZAC Day, we pause to remember.

We remember the courage of those who served, the sacrifices made, and the lives forever changed by war. We honour not only those who gave their lives, but also the families who carried the weight of that loss, then and now.

In our line of work, we are reminded every day of the importance of remembrance. Of stories told, names spoken, and lives never forgotten.

ANZAC Day is more than a moment in history, it is a living legacy of bravery, resilience, and quiet strength.

May we take a moment today to reflect, to remember, and to give thanks.

As the year gently settles into its rhythm, we find ourselves reflecting on the year that has passed.

To the families who entrusted us with the care of someone deeply loved - thank you. It has been a privilege to walk beside you during moments of farewell, remembrance, and quiet reflection. Each life we were honoured to care for mattered, and each story remains with us.

To our wider community, thank you for your trust, kindness, and support throughout the past year. We do not take lightly the responsibility of caring for those who have passed, or the families who grieve them.

As we continue into the year ahead, we do so with gratitude, humility, and a deep commitment to providing thoughtful, personal care whenever it is needed.

Of Konini, on Monday, 5 January 2026, suddenly, aged 81. Dearly loved husband and soul mate of Ellen (Carroll), loved father and father-in-law of Bernadette and Glen Williams, Patricia and Justin Fryer and Anne-Maree Oliver. Treasured Grandad of Kahlia & Andrew, Ben & Tyla, Jamie & Leila, Eilish, Maia and Finn and Great-Grandad of Macey and Carter; Piper and Ardie. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Margaret & Tony Scott (both deceased), Joan & Gary Nation (deceased), Joe & Catherine Carroll, Phonse & Marie Carroll (deceased), Tom & Alayne Carroll and Jim & Maree Carroll. Loved uncle to all his nieces and nephews and a special father figure and friend to many. Wairarapa Bush R.F.U. cap #005. We couldn’t be prouder of Mike for achieving his 10 year Long Service Certificate for over 10 years of dedicated service to the funeral industry. He is an outstanding person with a genuine heart for the families he supports, ensuring every detail is handled with care and respect. We’re grateful to have him as part of our team.

Aged 89, passed peacefully on Sunday 2 November 2025 surrounded by her family.
She asks that no one wears black to her funeral and celebrates her life in colour.
Funeral service to be held at St Peter’s Anglican Church, 18 Albert Street, Pahiatua on Saturday 8 November 2025 at 11am.
She will be resting at 1 Hughes Court from Tuesday-Friday with paint and brushes to decorate her coffin by friends and family.
