What you’ll learn (birth + postpartum practical skills) One of the biggest reasons new doulas feel nervous is not because they “don’t know enough” — it’s because they haven’t had a chance to practice what support looks like in real life.

In Doula Beginnings birth and/or postpartum training, we focus on practical, confidence-building skills such as:
* comfort measures and creating a calm, supportive environment
* supportive communication (what to say, when to say less, how to stay grounded)
* understanding the physiology of birth and the realities of postpartum
* scope, boundaries, and when/how to refer
* planning and supporting prenatal and postpartum visits with simple frameworks

You don’t need to be perfect. You just need a framework, practice, and a supportive place to learn.

Doula Beginnings training (birth and/or postpartum) is designed for people who want to support families with calm, practical, evidence-based care - and who want a clear framework for what to do (and what not to do) in the birth and postpartum space.

This training is a great fit if you:
* feel called to support women and families through birth and/or the early weeks at home
* want hands-on skills and real-world tools (not just information)
* want clarity on scope, communication, and support techniques
value connection, mentoring, and being part of a community

This training may not be the best fit if you:
* want a quick, “watch a few videos and you’re done” style course
* are looking for a clinical qualification (doulas are non-clinical support)
* aren’t able to commit time to practice, reflection, and continued learning

If you’re wondering “is this for me?” book a chat to find out more. Link is in the first comment.

One enrolment. One 12 month membership with mentorship included. Dual DONA International certification.

When I started out as a doula in New Zealand, I was the only one.

There was no community to turn to. No mentor to call. I had to build my practice, my confidence, and my understanding of the work entirely alone.

That experience shaped everything about how I train doulas today.

It is why every person who trains with me leaves the workshop with more than a certificate. They leave with 12 months of support through their Doula Beginnings membership, a private community of graduates, monthly sessions with me, and a business foundation that means they can take clients with confidence from day one.

It is also why I became a DONA International-approved trainer. DONA's standards, ethics framework, and international recognition are the professional backbone every doula deserves.

If you are thinking about doula training and want to understand what DONA certification actually means for your career, this article is for you.

Workshops start 21 September.

If you’ve been feeling that nudge to do this work, don’t wait for “someday.” The best time to start is when you still have support around you and a clear next step.

Our workshops are practical, supportive, and built to help you feel confident in how you show up for families.

Comment BRISBANE (or send me a message) and I’ll send you the link to book a chat and confirm availability.

There are only two opportunities left to train with Doula Beginnings this year.

If becoming a doula has been sitting on your heart for a while, this is your moment to stop circling it and take a real step.

* In-person training: Brisbane — September 2026
* Online training: November 2026

That’s it for this year.
These workshops are the first step in certifying as a DONA International certified doula. And you won’t be left to figure the rest out on your own.

When you train with Doula Beginnings, you also get 1 year of free Doula Beginnings membership included, to guide and support you through:
* the certification process
* building real confidence through the early steps
* starting a sustainable doula business (with support and resources)
* and much more!

If you want to train with Doula Beginnings in 2026, this is your last chance.

Reply "LAST CHANCE" and I’ll send you the link to book a free 30-minute chat so you can find out which is the right option for you (Brisbane or online).

Biggest myth about becoming a doula? That you have to be the calmest person in the room.
You don’t. You need training you can lean on. And support you can come back to.

Inside our doula training, you learn how to stay grounded when things get intense.
What to do with your hands. What to say. How to support families professionally and within scope.

If you’re even a little curious, let’s talk it through.
Reply "READY" and I’ll send you the link to book a chat about the upcoming workshops and whether this pathway fits you.

I am often asked whether DONA certification is worth it compared to other doula training options in Australia.

Here is my honest answer.

DONA International certification is the only credential in this market that is recognised internationally, backed by a professional body with a binding ethics framework, and requires ongoing education to maintain.

That matters when you are building a practice. Families research their doula before they hire. Midwives notice the difference. Hospitals respond differently to DONA-certified doulas who understand their scope of practice.

The Certificate IV in Doula Support Services is a legitimate Australian qualification but it is not internationally recognised and does not have DONA's standards framework behind it.

If you want to understand exactly what makes DONA certification the gold standard, and how it compares to other options in Australia and New Zealand, I have written a full article on this.
