Today we are honoured to share the beginning of a hononga between AAA Colenso-Pehi Limited Funeral Solutions and Te Tapuwae o Rangi.

Te Tapuwae o Rangi is a service that proudly sits under the mantle of Rangitāne o Manawatū Settlement Trust – Taumata Hou, and we are grateful for the vision and support that enables this kaupapa to grow in service of our whānau and wider community.

While each organisation remains true to its own identity and purpose, this hononga reflects a shared commitment to serving whānau with dignity, compassion, professionalism, and tikanga.

At the heart of this hononga is the passing on of knowledge.

For many years, Matua Mike Pehi has faithfully served whānau, carrying a wealth of experience, wisdom, and tikanga within the funeral profession. Through this hononga, he has generously welcomed Monique Anderson-McDonald into a mentorship journey, sharing his knowledge through hands-on training in funeral directing and embalming.

This is more than learning a profession. It is about preserving knowledge, honouring those entrusted to our care, and helping ensure these skills, values, and tikanga continue to be passed from one generation to the next.

We are deeply grateful to every whānau who place their trust in us. Every person entrusted to our care will continue to be treated with the utmost respect, dignity, and aroha. Under Matua Mike's careful guidance, this mentorship provides an opportunity for the next generation of funeral professionals to learn in a way that always places the mana of the tūpāpaku (deceased) and their whānau at the centre.

MATARIKI Pt 2/4

it has been suggested that the idea of Matariki as a group of seven female stars was influenced by the concept of the Pleiades' "seven sisters” more recently it has been recognised as nine stars in Matariki, adding Pōhutukawa and Hiwa-i-te-Rangi (also known just as Hiwa) to make a total of eight children, five of which were female and three male. The father of Matariki's children was Rehua, paramount chief of the heavens, identified by Māori as the star Antares.
