Check out this lovely feedback from Rebecca 💛
We had our second baby at Te Papaioea Birthing Centre in September 2025.
We chose a home pool birth for our first baby (which is a story of its own, I am usually a big fan of pain relief) which was a textbook generally positive experience, but did involve a bit more admin for their dad in the set up and clean up at the time - this time at Te Papaioea we could both just "be" in the experience.
We absolutely loved being there - it feels so safe and private, it looks like a hotel room with a big comfy bed, lots of laboring options, you have on call support 24/7 but you also won't be disturbed unnecessarily.
Lovely food was brought to the room for my partner and I, and toast could be made anytime in the kitchenette.
Baby was born in the bath, and yes labor and birth hurts, but I can't imagine a better more peaceful set up to get it done.
Because labor was progressing pretty fast and my mum was on way from out of town we brought our daughter there as well in the middle of the night, and as a result she was part of the majority of the process which was pretty special, and mum arrived not long before baby born.
We stayed one night as we wanted to be home with our first baby, but I really missed feeling so taken care of once we got home! And the first night bub was bringing up a bit of mucus but a midwife could reassure us right away. With our first baby it was much more of a baptism by fire figuring it all out the first few nights and this time felt so much easier with all the support.
Would definitely recommend this place for the calm, safety and care provided by the lovely staff 🩷
