This morning I heard something I found genuinely absurd and it’s been bothering me ever since!
The advice was:
“If you don’t know what to do, just do nothing.”
I heard this today as a form of motivation and honestly, I couldn’t think of anything more unmotivating.
It actually concerns me a little that advice like this could be presented to young people or anyone who is trying to figure themselves out, as a positive mindset.
Because what happens when you don’t know what to do?
You learn.
You ask questions.
You seek advice.
You find someone who knows more than you.
You try something.
You make mistakes.
You adjust.
You keep going.
Not knowing what to do isn’t a reason to give up. It’s the starting point for learning!
And this applies to the gym just as much as it does to life.
You don’t know how to train? Learn.
You don’t know where to start? Ask.
You’re unsure what exercise is right for you? Get guidance.
You’ve tried something and it hasn’t worked? Adjust and try again.
Of course, there are times when you shouldn’t rush into action. Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is pause and get more information.
But there’s a big difference between “don’t act blindly” and “do nothing.”
I want the people who walk through our doors to believe that they can figure things out but I’m always on hand to help at anytime!
You don’t have to know everything.
You just have to be willing to learn what you don’t know.
So if you don’t know what to do…
Don’t do nothing.
Find out. Then take the next step.
That’s a mindset I’ll happily stand behind. 💪
