Great news - the flu vaccine is now funded for pēpē and tamariki aged from 6 months old right up until their 5th birthday!

It's not too late to get immunised this year. Flu is spreading at very high rates across Aotearoa, and the vaccine protects against 4 different strains.

If your child is under 4 and getting the flu vaccine for the first time, they'll need two doses, 4 weeks apart, for the best protection.

The flu vaccine can be given alongside their normal childhood immunisations - just ask the nurse about it at their 12 month, 15 month or 4 year immunisation visit.

Flu season is hitting hard this year, and here's something worth knowing: you're often most contagious before you feel your worst, so "soldiering on" at work, school or daycare can increase the risk of spreading it.

Feeling unwell? If you can, take a day to rest up in case you're about to go downhill. If you're sick, keep your fluids up, stay home and use paracetamol or ibuprofen for aches and fever.

Resting at home is the best treatment, as antibiotics don't work on viruses. However, do reach out for help if you or your child have difficulty breathing, chest pain, a high fever that won't come down, a severe headache or stiff neck, or blue or purple lips/skin. You can call Healthline free, 24/7, on 0800 611 116, and always call 111 in an emergency.

Haven't had your flu vaccine yet? It's not too late, and it's still a helpful protection, especially if you're older, pregnant, or living with someone who has an ongoing health condition.

Sometimes what's needed isn't just a prescription or a referral, but someone to walk alongside you, help connect you with the right support, and make sure nothing gets missed along the way.

That's the thinking behind the new Local Health Care Coordination service, He Pito Oranga.

Our Care Coordinators, Alicia and Grace work closely with patients and whānau who are navigating complex health and social challenges. They join the dots between health, social services, and community support so that people don't have to figure it all out alone.

We’re excited we’ll soon be launching the Local Health App for Awapuni Medical patients.

This is our safe, secure online patient portal that allows you to manage healthcare for yourself or on behalf of your family.

The app is available now to download from the Apple Store and Google Play or can be accessed on your computer.

From 27 July Awapuni Medical will be available to select as your enrolled medical centre. Our other Local Health practices also use this app and we’re getting great feedback.
