I also acknowledge my Walsh, Irish & English ancestry. In the early 60's, my parents came to Mt Maunganui to get married. I was born & raised there. As a teenager, I lived on our whenua in Whakakī (Nth of Wairoa) where I connected with my Kuia, on a spiritual level, who was the healer there. However, work life soon took over. After 21 years working on construction sites, I decided to study at Toi Ohomai in 2006 to become a Personal Trainer. I then worked there for 15 years. I bring these skills forward to assist people in gaining the best outcome. In 2017, I finally acknowledged the consistent calls from my Kuia (Spiritually) to start learning rongoā māori. Firstly, with Jolie Davis & then with Atarangi Murupaenga. Their guidance towards my growth & development within the traditional Māori healing teachings has been life changing on all levels of being. It has been fast, intense & challenging at times however, necessary. The learning is continuous & for life! Faith & trust in my pathway led to the opening of:
TE AO MĀRAMA TRADITIONAL MĀORI BODYWORK
We are the healers of ourselves! Life's challenges can cloud this realization. At times we need assistance to help facilitate this process to remember & reconnect to the true essence of who we are. Just like the butterfly, without the struggle & fight through adversity, it would not be able to build the strength needed to break out of the darkness & into the light. A transformative process to freedom of being. Tools of guidance, education, support, advice are provided to empower & uplift until people are ready to take over the reins of healing for themselves. Self-responsible, self-accountable. It all starts with a choice! Healing is not a destination; it is a way of being. We need to be shapeshifters that adapt & change with the flow of life. To regularly practice self-honouring. SERVICES.....

ROMIROMI / MIRIMIRI / WHITIWHITIKŌRERO:
Traditional Maaori bodywork can help to release stress, tension & trauma held deep within the body at a cellular level that has accumulated through life's experiences. The movement is slow to get the depth needed for release to take place. It’s not about causing pain; it’s extracting pain to awaken the body, mind & spirit. To remember who you are, as a spiritual being having a physical experience. MAHI RAAKAU - SELF HELP/HEALING
One of the traditional practices of our Traditional Māori Healing Arts. Working the body with a Raakau (stick). The use of the he Raakau will help people discover the places and parts of the body that are challenged. It will always move the user to a deeper level of awareness of self that may have been forgotten. The feet are considered the gateway to the body, so therefore must be worked on first. To open the body up, ignite the internal organs and to instantly bring people into the here & now. A sequence is used to work sections of the feet which correspond to sections of the torso. The movement is slow to get the depth needed to release stored tension, stress & trauma. The work can trigger memories, injuries, past life patterns. It’s not about causing pain; it’s about awakening the body, mind & spirit. Once the feet have been opened, a larger Rākau is used to work the torso in sections. Wānanga are held bi-monthly at the Welcome Bay Community Centre, Tauranga. Or private groups by arrangement. ACC-REGISTERED RONGOĀ MĀORI SERVICE:

💦 CONNECTION 🌿

Lately, the theme of "CONNECTION" has constantly surfaced with my whaiora. It serves as a gentle reminder that wellness requires connection, while illness thrives in disconnection & isolation.

🪁First and foremost, we must connect to the self. Pull back the string of your kite when it flies too high in the realms of overthinking, anxiety, hyper-vigilance, and fear. Even in the depths of winter, we must ground our feet upon Papatūānuku and connect with Tangaroa/Hinemoana to anchor ourselves within.

🌀By opening the access points through our heels and the crowns of our heads, we allow energy to transfer—letting go of the old and welcoming the new to flush, clear, and cleanse every level of our being.

🦋 This morning, I set aside my to-do list to follow tohu and intuition, taking a hīkoi by the moana. The water mirrored my internal state: calm, peaceful, and entirely free of tension. In that space of flow, I felt immense gratitude.

✨️ Right then, a surprise call came from a Kuia in Te Araroa seeking a mirimiri. It was pure connection happening through word of mouth, whakapapa, and whanaungatanga. While I will visit her soon on my travels back home, she was deeply grateful just for the kōrero to help shift the energy she was stuck in.

💦 Mirimiri manifests in so many ways—the wind on our faces, the lapping of the tide, the sand beneath our feet, and the healing kōrero that flows between us. The timing of her call and the sanctuary where I stood aligned perfectly for us both. 💜

Mauri ora!

🌺 HARAREI TIME 🌺

For the past few years I've worked through the Xmas / New Year period. I prefer to stay open during this time to support whānau who find this time of year challenging.

It's not all happy days for everyone. And I'm not into the hype anyway. 🤷🏾‍♀️🙅🏾‍♀️😆

✨️As Matariki grows in strength year by year to welcome in the Māori new year, it makes more sense to me to take my break around this time.

🌺🏖This year, I'm heading over to Tahiti on an adventure with an awesome group of Rangatahi. We have a jammed packed schedule for the 10 days we're there. Waka Ama, Kapa Haka, 4x4 safaris, island hopping, lots of swimming & so much more!

⏰️So the tari will be closed from 24th July to 9th Aug.
Restarting on 10th AUGUST!

🎯 For AUGUST we are jumping straight back into mahi with our community events of Mahi Rākau & Te Waka Wairua Hauora Day later in the month. Stay tuned for those pānui.

Ka tū tonu koe i roto i te aroha
Stand in the love 💜 Be true to the love within you 😍
