I adore these snaps of Julia’s labour and birth. These are the extraordinary sights I get to see on the regular!

I had only arrived for a cuppa tea but labour began as we chatted in the sunshine drinking tea. I was thrilled that I had my camera in the car!

The later stages of Julia’s pregnancy was spent preparing for her baby to arrive breech. This meant a lot of internal processing with much to consider and decide pre-birth.

It wasn’t until her water broke that the midwife discovered baby was now indeed head down!

Julia worked through a “hard and fast” labour, with her man Taylor holding steady in support- and also catching his son when he arrived! All 9 pound 13 of him!

I had only called in for a cuppa.
I asked Julia if I could snap this first photograph as I had my camera in the car and she looked particularly beautiful.

2.5 hours after this photo she had a baby in her arms!

“Come meet your baby brother”
“Awwww! I’m so happy!“ said newly big brother Yari.

“Yari was home with me all day while labour quietly and slowly crept up on me. We discussed ideas for homemade bird feeders and watched how to make them on youtube together. I was feeling some tightening every few hours and spent majority of the day laying down and waddling to the toilet.

By 2.30 I was calling my doula and texting my best friend that things were starting, by 3pm I was telling Ezra to come home and that this baby was coming alot faster than I’d originally thought.
Yari was concerned for me when active labour began and the sounds were getting primal.
After the birth he expressed how worried for me he was, I told him that was the sound of me being strong and how hard I had to work to bring his brother to us.

Grateful to have had an intimate birth at home with my family, just a normal Saturday afternoon, with the small miracle of welcoming a new life into the world” - Ainsley ❤️

Perimenopause/menopause is a whole body transition- EVERYTHING changes- our bodies, our minds, our hormones, relationships, desires, our sense of self... and perhaps there is something here that wants to be written…

For 3 months, we will gather together to write our way through “The Change”.

You do not need to consider yourself a writer. You simply need to be curious… about the heat, about the rage, about what no longer wants to be carried….

We begin Tuesday 15th September online at 7.30pm.

Labour of Love Doula Immersion unfolded over the weekend.
All I can say right now is the women were ready, the river was flowing and the mud was dark… the exact recipe for a potent gathering!
