Madam Denise Piguet has shared an updated reflection on her experience with chyme reinfusion therapy, more than five and a half years after first using the system in Switzerland.

“This system is now part of my life and I have adapted to it perfectly.”

Her story also recognises the ongoing support of Aude-Aline Galandat, her stoma care nurse, whose care has helped support Denise throughout her journey.

We look forward to the 13th Biennial Congress of the ASEAN Society of Colorectal Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress 2026 in Penang, Malaysia (24–26 April).

This year’s programme brings together leading clinicians to share real-world experience in intestinal rehabilitation and the management of complex stoma and fistula cases. Dr Hans Alexander Mahendran will present the first clinical case in Malaysia, including patient selection, initiation, and early outcomes, while Prof. Dr. Cheong Wai Kit will discuss evolving approaches to managing complex intestinal conditions.

The programme also highlights the importance of patient perspective. Muhamad Safwan Ishak will share his experience living with intestinal failure and his recovery journey, providing insight into the impact of care beyond clinical measures.
