The late Sharon Hawke's story traces the long aftermath of occupation – through film, journalism and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei governance — and a legacy spent fighting for Māori stories, memory and self-determination.

We share this feature in memory of Sharon, who passed away in April. To explore the full feature from our Living magazine, click the link below.

Welcome to the fourth edition of Generus Living's Living magazine. Through these pages, we celebrate remarkable New Zealanders, and this edition is no exception. This edition of Living is filled with plenty of thoughtful reading perfect for a slower season – from creative spaces and remote landscapes to local craft, flavour and fresh food ideas.

In this issue, we interview the late Sharon Hawke, step inside The Pavilion at Pacific Lakes in Pāpāmoa, meet Lighthouse Gin head distiller Rachel Hall to hear the story behind the brand's remarkable revival, and journey to the breathtaking landscapes of Rakiura Stewart Island. We also visit Central Otago's Gibbston Microgreens, where innovative local food production is thriving through sustainable growing methods.

The Foundation was delighted to host the renowned Spizzwinks(?) during their Auckland visit, with performances including the memorable “A Night at the Museum” event. The occasion created a truly special atmosphere, bringing together residents, guests, and performers for an evening filled with music, connection, and entertainment.

Residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance, describing it as uplifting, engaging, and a unique experience that brought wonderful energy to the village community.

Established in 1914, The Spizzwinks(?) are one of Yale’s premier a ca****la ensembles, internationally recognised for their musical excellence, touring tradition, and dynamic performances. Their distinctive name also carries a story of its own.

In the group’s early years, when their name appeared in a Yale publication, an editor was unsure whether it had been spelled correctly and added a question mark. Rather than correcting it, the group embraced the ambiguity — and the famous “(?)” has remained part of their identity ever since.

Today, we pause to remember and honour those who served and sacrificed for our country. On ANZAC Day, we reflect on the courage and resilience that continue to shape who we are today.

At The Foundation Village, we take a moment to come together in remembrance — to acknowledge the past, honour the present, and share in a quiet gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy.

Lest we forget.
