π¨ Just when we thought we'd had enough of the dreaded scabies... Influenza A has decided to join the party.
We always like to keep our community in the know about what's happening locally, and over the last couple of days we've seen a noticeable increase in Influenza A cases in our clinic. It's quickly catching up with the dreaded scabies as one of the most common conditions we're diagnosing.
If your child suddenly develops:
π€ A high fever
π₯Ά Chills
π΄ Extreme tiredness
π€ Headaches and body aches
π€§ Cough or sore throat
..it could be the flu rather than just a common cold.
π The good news? You can purchase a Rapid Influenza A & B Test from most pharmacies. They give you a result in around 15 minutes, so you'll know what you're dealing with quickly.
π Most people with Influenza A do not need antibiotics, as it is caused by a virus. Treatment is usually:
βοΈ Plenty of rest
βοΈ Lots of fluids
βοΈ Pamol or ibuprofen (if appropriate) to help with fever and aches
π₯ Most people also don't need to be seen by a doctor. However, please seek medical advice if you or your child:
β’ Is struggling to drink enough fluids.
β’ Has difficulty breathing or is breathing faster than usual.
β’ Is unusually sleepy, difficult to wake, or you're concerned they're getting worse.
Let's all do our part to help slow the spread:
π§Ό Wash hands regularly.
π€§ Cover coughs and sneezes.
π Stay home until you're feeling better.
We know it's not the news anyone wants to hear, but a little awareness now can help keep our whΔnau and community healthy. π
