“I thought it had fixed itself, but it keeps coming back?”

It’s something I hear a lot.

A shoulder settles down, then flares up again. The same side of the lower back keeps getting tight. You rest an injury, it improves, then as soon as you get back to surfing, running, lifting or even just normal life… there it is again.

When someone comes into the clinic with pain, of course I want to understand what hurts.

But I’m also interested in why that area might be getting overloaded in the first place.

That can mean looking at things like:

• How the joints around it are moving
• Whether another area is compensating
• Strength, control and proprioception
• Previous injuries
• Posture and movement habits
• What you actually ask your body to do day to day

For example, if your shoulder is sore, I’m not only looking at your shoulder. I may also want to see how your upper back, neck and shoulder blade are moving — and what happens when you put those movements together.

The same applies whether your goal is getting back in the surf, running comfortably, getting through a workday without feeling stiff, or simply walking more easily.

That’s a big part of what I mean by movement-based chiropractic.

Rather than only asking, “Where does it hurt?”, I want to understand how the whole picture fits together.

Meet Dr Hannah 👋

I’m Hannah, chiropractor and founder of Raglan Rise Chiropractic.

I’m UK-trained, UK and NZ registered chiropractor. I graduated from AECC in Bournemouth with a Master of Chiropractic (MChiro), alongside a BSc (Hons), and I’m also EVT Certified. With experience expanding over 4 clinics and 2 countries, I am well versed in helping people from all walks of life.

Before becoming a chiropractor, I spent six years working as a sports massage therapist, which probably explains why my approach has always been very movement-focused. I like to understand why something is happening, not just where it hurts, and combine hands-on care with practical advice, mobility and rehabilitation where appropriate.

Outside the clinic, I’m happiest being active — running, training, getting outdoors or finding another slightly questionable physical challenge to sign myself up for.

One of the things I love most about working in Raglan is the huge variety of people I get to look after: desk workers, tradies, farmers, runners, surfers, parents, retirees and plenty in between.

My aim is for you to feel listened to, understand what’s going on with your body, and have a clear plan for moving forward.

“My goal is to help you move better, feel better, and keep doing the things you love. Life is there to be lived, after all.”

Do you care for your car better than your body? 🚗

You service your car regularly, check the tyres, top up the oil and pay attention when a warning light appears.

🤞But when your body feels stiff, sore or starts moving differently, how often do you just ignore it and hope it goes away?

📃Your body carries you through every workday, workout, school run and weekend adventure.

💪Regular chiropractic check-ins can help identify areas of restricted movement, address problems before they become more disruptive, and keep you moving comfortably.

Your car is replaceable. Your body isn’t.

If you can't remember the last time you gave it a check over, this is your sign to do so.

🤓 Did you know, desk work itself often isn’t the problem—it’s spending hours in the same position, day after day, often for many years.

👨‍💼 When the head and shoulders remain forward and the upper back moves very little, the muscles and joints around the cervical and thoracic spine are placed under sustained demand.

🗓️ Over time, the body adapts to what it repeatedly does: some areas may become stiff, others work harder to compensate, and your tolerance for prolonged sitting can reduce. This may contribute to neck and upper-back discomfort, tension, fatigue, headaches and restricted movement. Posture is only one part of the picture, and these changes don’t automatically mean permanent damage.

💪 Chiropractic care can help by identifying the areas that are not moving or coping well, improving mobility, easing pain and stiffness, and providing individual exercises and desk-based strategies. The aim isn’t to hold a “perfect” posture all day—it’s to keep your body moving well, build its tolerance and help you remain comfortable over the long term.
