Button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) are both a nutritional and a medical powerhouse.

They contain bioactive compounds such as beta-glucans, antioxidants such as ergothioneine, and essential minerals that support immune modulation, metabolic health, and anti-inflammatory pathways.

High levels of selenium and ergothioneine reduce oxidative stress and cellular damage.

Phytochemicals present in the mushroom may help decrease tumour risks and lower chronic inflammation.

17 cancer studies from 1966 to 2020 show that eating just 18 grams of mushrooms (equal to about a 1/8-cup or two medium mushrooms) a day may lower your risk of cancer by as much as 45%.

Polysaccharides improve insulin resistance and assist with glycaemic balance.
Potassium and dietary fibre help maintain healthy blood pressure and optimal lipid profiles.

Non-digestible fibres act as prebiotics to support beneficial gut microflora.
When exposed to UV light or sunlight, they produce high levels of vitamin D2 to support bone mineralization.

Rich in B-complex vitamins that assist cellular energy production.

In a study in Singapore, participants who ate more than two cups of mushrooms a week had a 50% lower risk of developing MCI (mild cognitive impairment). Even those who ate only one cup saw some benefit.

They still produce vitamin D even when not exposed to sunlight, although you will need to eat a few more.

Traditionally mushrooms have been used medicinally for cancer protection, immune regulation, vitamin D, bone health, heart health, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Alzheimer’s, dementia, cognitive function, osteoporosis, blood sugar regulation, reduction of sodium, diabetes, weight management, digestive support, anaemia, inflammation, prostate health, virus protection and much more.

So, get stuck into those yummy mushrooms and eat your way to wellness.

It’s not meant to be complicated to be well, nor is it meant to be expensive.

With winter comes colds and flu. And there are very good reasons for that.

Cold air causes upper airways to narrow. Even in healthy people, cold air can irritate the lungs and trigger symptoms such as wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath, in turn triggering issues such as asthma, emphysema, etc.

Cold weather also increases mucus production and can raise your risk for viruses and infections.

There are some simple things we can do to protect ourselves through the colder months.
• Your nose has blood vessels in it that help warm and humidify air, so breathe through your nose as much as possible.
• Use a good vapour rub to help relax and open the airways while reducing congestion.

Menthol can reduce respiratory discomfort and pain, and may also shrink swollen nasal membranes, making breathing easier.

Peppermint can relax and open the bronchial muscles of the windpipe, while loosening mucus that has collected in the lungs. (Peppermint is quite powerful and not recommended for children under 30 months).

Eucalyptus reacts with mucus membranes, reducing mucus production.

Clove reduces infections and loosens mucus in the throat and oesophagus.

Rosemary does all of the above and is also an antispasmodic so may reduce symptoms of bronchial asthma.

Magnesium is key to good winter wellness and resistance to colds, flus and allergies. It’s essential for both active and passive immunity, and is a natural bronchodilator and antihistamine, meaning it relaxes and expands the airways.
It’s believed to increase body oxygen capacity and improve lung function, while blocking chemicals that cause muscle spasms, and naturally reducing inflammation. Magnesium also boosts the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone, and serotonin, the anti-stress hormone.

Check out our Mentholated Vapour rub balm, with all of the above ingredients in it.

And for your baby, our Baby V***r Rub Balm is gentle and effective too, but without the peppermint and menthol, which can be too intense for our littlest of people. So we swap them out for Fir Needle and Lavender. Both the lavender and magnesium will also help your wee one to sleep better. That’s blessed relief for the whole household!!!!!

Acne and pimples can be unsightly, and cause scarring if left untreated.

Acne is a bacterial condition where hair follicles become clogged with bacteria and dry skin, causing infection and often painful swelling. A combination of herbs and oils can be very successful at alleviating symptoms and restoring skin integrity.

Check out our Clearing Acne Balm, which contains the following…….

Jojoba oil is thought to mimic our own sebum and may reduce oil production and bacteria growth. It facilitates super absorption into the skin and is anti-inflammatory, soothing and believed to unblock pores to dissolve both black heads and white heads. It’s also an excellent dead skin exfoliator.

H**p Seed oil is moisturizing and may prevent pores from clogging while balancing sebum production.

Raw beeswax does not clog the pores but provides a moisturizing protective barrier that may manage and reduce bacterial growth.

Raw honey is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory and combats the bacteria that causes outbreaks. It is also thought to speed healing and reduce scarring.

Cinnamon oil is anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-microbial. Studies have shown it may reduce the count of acne lesions when applied topically.

Frankincense is anti-inflammatory and has been shown to reduce outbreaks by killing acne forming bacteria.

Calendula is both anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. It supports skin healing and reduces the formation of scar tissue.

Carrot seed oil is both anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. It’s also a strong skin rejuvenator and with an SPF of 42; may be very sun protective.

Rosemary oil clears pores by reducing the size and shape of acne causing bacteria.

Lavender unclogs pores and promotes healthier skin by balancing oil production and exfoliating dead skin.

Raspberry seed contains linoleic acid, which balances the skins natural oils and reduces inflammation and oxidative stress.

Eucalyptus oil reduces inflammation and soothes painful acne. It regulates sebum production and reduces breakouts.

Tea Tree is anti-microbial and antiseptic. It kills bacteria and reduces redness and swelling. It’s also another fantastic dead skin exfoliator.

Melons are not only yummy to eat, but provide impressive therapeutic properties, largely due to their high water content and phytonutrients. They are natural diuretics that support cardiovascular health, and they provide powerful antioxidants that reduce inflammation and protect against cellular damage. Melons provide folate, vitamin K and magnesium.

Melons contain electrolytes, so, try melon instead of Poweraid when working out. Team with coconut water for an even better hit of electrolytes, without the harmful sugars.

Different melon varieties provide unique medicinal benefits. Watermelon is high in L-citrulline and lycopene, it improves blood circulation, relaxes blood vessels, and supports heart health. Lycopene is also linked to prostate cancer protection.

Cantaloupe is rich in beta-carotene (vitamin A), it enhances eyesight, lowers the risk of age-related macular degeneration, and supports skin repair. Honeydew is loaded with vitamin C, it supports immune function and boosts collagen production for healthy skin.

Bitter Melon contains compounds that can assist in blood sugar regulation and insulin sensitivity.

Traditionally melons have been used medicinally for diabetes, blood sugar management, hydration, heart health, high blood pressure, immune health, digestive health, eye health, macular degeneration, skin health, stress, cancer prevention, stroke prevention, vascular health, kidney disease, liver disease, gout, pulmonary tuberculosis, hypertension, obesity, constipation, haemorrhoids, thirst, nervousness, and much more.

So make the most of them when they are in season.

Marjoram is a versatile culinary and medicinal herb. Leaves, flowers and stems are all edible, and often used in place of oregano, with a milder flavour.

Just one teaspoon of the dried herb can make a very useful wellness tea. It balances adrenal androgens, and due to its eugenol content, can be a very effective pain reliever.

Often referred to as the "sausage herb," marjoram is a staple in sausage making, stews, and roasted meats. Fresh marjoram loses its delicate flavour quite quickly so should be added near the end of cooking. Dried marjoram keeps its flavour longer and can be added closer to the beginning of your cook.

Historically it has been referred to as “the herb of happiness” due to its anxiety reducing chemicals.

Traditionally it has been used medicinally for digestive issues, bloating, cramps, menstrual cycle regulating, improvement of insulin sensitivity, muscle pain, joint pain, PMS, Polycystic O***y Syndrome, stress relief, female hormone balancing, indigestion, digestive support, headaches, muscle soreness, anxiety, tension alleviation, insomnia, stress, sleep, colds, nasal congestion, sore throats, respiratory issues, calming the uterus, menopause, pre-menstrual syndrome, conceiving, improved breast milk production, blood sugar management, lowering of blood pressure, tooth grinding, anorexia, dyspepsia, reducing acid secretions of the stomach, ulcers, cleaning of wounds, acne, runny nose, coughs, asthma, disorders affecting bile flow in the liver, gallstones, ovarian cysts, UTI’s, bladder inflammation, anti-aging, skin appearance, dark eye circles, decreased iron in red blood cells, fever, gingivitis, stomatitis, nerve pain, rheumatic pain, sprains, weight loss, diabetes, and even more.

Wow!!!! This herb is a powerhouse for wellness.

It tastes good, so add it to your food.

It’s not meant to be complicated to be well, nor is it meant to be expensive.

Is winter making you feel dreary??? Are you nervous about an upcoming exam or event???

Stress??? Insomnia??? Anxiety??? Depression??? ADHD???

Check out our Magnesium Chloride Rescue Balm. By default, it smells absolutely amazing too.

Magnesium is the tool the body needs to create the anti-stress hormone, Serotonin, and, also, the sleep hormone, Melatonin.

Our balm is magnesium rich so you can enjoy all the many benefits, to more than 300 functions of the body, that need magnesium to work properly, and to activate vitamin D for regeneration.

Added Clary Sage, Orange and Jasmine are natural calming anti-depressants that boost confidence and courage, while also aiding mental focus and balancing hormones. Magnesium does all of this too.

All of the other added oils in our balm are skin soothing and healing.

We recommend a little rubbed into the insides of the wrists morning and night (so you get the benefit of the calming and mind focusing smell), and into the soles of the feet before bed (for a more refreshing nights sleep). It’s blissfully calming for the whole family.

08/07/2026

Mandarins are a citrus fruit rich in vitamins, fibre, and antioxidants.

Mandarins are packed with Vitamin C, which helps your body fight off colds and infections and also helps your body to make collagen.

The soluble fibre in mandarins slows down absorption of sugar. It has also been shown to reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol, which may decrease risk of heart issues and strokes. This fibre also manages high blood pressure.

Peels produce synephrine, a natural decongestant that clears up a stuffy nose. Their peels are also used to calm stomach cramps and improve digestion. Dried mandarin peels can be used in teas to treat bloating, gas, and nausea.

The oil contains a plant compound called N-methylantranilate, which helps relax your brain to fight stress and treat insomnia. The oil acts as an antispasmodic. It can calm muscle spasms, stomach aches and suppress a bad cough. The oil has antiseptic properties that kill bacteria when applied to minor cuts.

Mandarins are rich in Beta-carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin, which are compounds that give mandarins their rich orange colour. They are antioxidants that may also help reduce the risk of some cancers. The body turns beta-carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin into vitamin A, which is essential for a healthy immune system, good vision, and normal growth and development.

The high potassium content in mandarins lowers blood pressure by easing tension in blood vessel walls and ridding the body of excess salt.

The calcium and magnesium content in mandarins may increase bone mineral density.

The fruit fights colds and heals wounds.

Mandarins have been used historically in traditional medicine for insomnia, high blood pressure, digestive discomfort, gas, bloating, colds, flus, muscle spasms, infections, wounds, diabetes, high cholesterol, stress, anxiety, cancer, eye health, bone health, coughs, stomach aches, immune regulation, rheumatism, snake bite, loss of taste, asthma, hemiplegia, heart disease, weight loss, skin health and much more.

Another truly yummy way to eat ourselves well.

It’s not meant to be complicated to be well, nor is it meant to be expensive.
