Let’s stop pretending!

This statement is NOT about fear.

It’s about context: the hospital model was built for pathology, not physiology.

When a healthy, low‑risk woman enters a system designed for emergencies, she is exposed to risks that come from the environment, not her body.

Hospitals are designed for complications — not normal birth.
Hospital birth is essential for:

high‑risk pregnancies
medical complications
emergencies

But for healthy, low‑risk women, the hospital model introduces:

unnecessary surveillance
unnecessary interventions
unnecessary risk

Midwifery‑led settings (birth centers, home birth) consistently show:

fewer interventions
fewer C‑sections
higher satisfaction
safer outcomes for low‑risk mothers and babies

Breast milk is made from blood and not directly from what you eat ❤️

🩸✨ Breast milk is made from blood, not directly from what you eat until nutrients reaches your blood stream.

Your body uses nutrients from your bloodstream to make milk that's uniquely designed for your baby. Even when your diet isn't perfect, your body can often draw on nutrient stores to support milk production.

This is why, for most breastfeeding families, foods that make you gassy don't make your baby gassy. Gas is produced in your intestines it doesn't pass into your breast milk. Occasionally, you could consume foods with proteins which impact baby's digestion, but this isn't common, and when gas occurs, it is rarely a concern. Uncomfortable, yes, abnormal concern? Rarely.

There are always exceptions. Some babies have conditions such as cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) or milk soy protein intolerance (MSPI), where proteins from certain foods can trigger symptoms. In those cases, dietary changes may be recommended.

But for the average healthy breastfeeding parent and baby, specialty elimination diets aren't necessary. Most newborn gas, fussiness, and frequent feeding are normal parts of infancy, not signs that your diet is causing a problem.

Some women are sensitive to certain herbs, but in culinary levels, it's rarely a problem. But keep an eye if you have concerns.

If your baby has concerning problems you think might be associated with your diet, seek the support of an IBCLC and follow up with baby's pediatrician.

✨️ Evidence matters. So does reassurance.

❤️

During physiological labour the baby isn't just arriving; they're doing the labour dance too!

Rotating to fit through the pelvis, flexing their head to make themselves smaller, descending in small surges rather than one long slide. Also along the way, they're giving feedback to mum (more space here, a change in position there, sometimes even a pause in contractions while everyone gets a breather before more force is needed).

Babies are active participants in their own birth, and they are very good at being born!

What happens in the first 60 mins after your baby is born is the most important hour of their entire life!! ❤️

Some newborn boundaries to put in place…

Some newborn boundaries to put in place…

Newborn boundaries aren’t about keeping people out.

They’re about keeping a baby safe.

Wash your hands before holding them.
Skip the kisses.
If you’re feeling sick, wait until you’re better.
Hand the baby back when Mom or Dad asks.
Respect feeding times, naps, and routines.

These requests aren’t a reflection of how much you’re loved or trusted.

They’re precautions for a tiny human whose immune system is still learning how to protect them.

Parents aren’t being dramatic.
They’re doing their job.

A newborn can’t speak up for themselves, so their parents have to do it for them.

The people who truly care about that baby won’t be offended by the rules.

They’ll understand that protecting a newborn matters more than protecting an adult’s feelings.
