Sharing my thoughts about how walking my dog, Willard has daily health benefits πŸ’š

The best part of my day (except climbing into bed πŸ˜…) is taking Willard for his walk.

Willard reminds me that getting outside and breathing fresh air are as important for me as they are for him.

We walk in the evenings, and this means that I get to see the sunset.

I do not take any device with me - I treat this as downtime.

I use these 45 minutes as the line between work and home.
I leave the house with my brain in work mode and arrive back ready to tackle the demands of family at the end of the day.

The magic is not the walk itself, but the commitment to walking daily.
You can't talk yourself out of it when there's a pair of big brown eyes staring you down. Willard doesn't care that it's cold, or dark, or raining, or that I'm tired.
He just needs me to show up. And every single time, I get home glad that I did.

πŸ«€ Regular dog walking lowers blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides
🧠 Just looking at your dog raises oxytocin β€” your brain's natural stress-relief hormone
πŸ’ͺ Dog owners are more likely to stay consistently active than non-dog-owners
❀️ Dog ownership is linked to a 24% lower risk of dying from any cause
😌 That daily connection with your dog and fresh air reduces loneliness and lifts mood

Who else feels the same way about walking their dog? Do you treat dog walks as another chore on your list or as an opportunity?

Next time you feel that taking time to walk your dog is another thing to get done, remember that walking is good for your both your health and your dog's health πŸ•β€πŸ¦ΊπŸΆ

A NZ supplement brand recall this week made undeclared allergens and labelling errors public.

It's not really about that one brand.
It's a reminder of something I check for every client: most supplements are never independently tested before they reach the shelf.
Manufacturers self-certify.
There's no requirement for a third party to verify potency, purity or consistency before you buy.

Before I recommend anything, I check for a standardised dose, evidence of independent testing, and a manufacturer who's transparent about sourcing.

That's the bar β€” not the label alone.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my recent call for input on metabolic health in perimenopause β€” both directly, and via my newsletter.

Several of you have generously offered time for a conversation, but scheduling across time zones and existing commitments hasn't always been possible.

For anyone in that position, I've put together a short alternative: an 8-question questionnaire, taking around 5 minutes, where you can share your experience and the questions, you'd most like addressed β€” no call necessary.

Your input is directly shaping the information I provide in an upcoming a free webinar on metabolic health and weight gain in midlife.

If you'd still like to contribute but a chat hasn't been practical, this is the simplest way to do it.

I want to tell you what I actually do, because not everyone knows what natural medicine can offer.

When you come to see me, you get time.
A real conversation.
Not 15 minutes and a prescription β€” an hour where we look at the whole picture together.

I look for root causes.
Not just what's flaring up right now, but why it keeps happening.

I work with your body to resolve symptoms β€” not just suppress them so they go quiet for a while and come back louder later.

I connect the dots between things that might seem unrelated β€” your sleep, your gut, your energy, your mood, your hormones.

Your body is one system, and I treat it that way.

And the products I recommend?
Quality matters. I don't stock the same brands you'll find at the supermarket or local pharmacy.

I work with women, men, and families. In person in Rolleston, or online anywhere in NZ.

If you've ever left a doctor's appointment feeling like something got missed β€” I'd love to have a chat.

I love to learn. It is one of the reasons I love my work.

Regular training isn't optional for me β€” it's part of my commitment to my clients.

Natural medicine continues to evolve, and staying current means my clients receive care that's informed by the latest understanding, not just established habit.

If you've been curious about what natural medicine can offer you or your family, feel free to get in touch.

This is mostly who I see in my practice.

It's rarely someone with one simple complaint.

It's usually someone who's been managing a tangle β€” fatigue alongside gut issues alongside hormonal shifts alongside weight that won't respond to the things that used to work.

Often they've been told everything is "fine."

Often they've tried a lot of things.
Often they're exhausted by the trying.

That complexity is not a problem. It's actually exactly what I'm trained for.

As a Natural Medicine Practitioner, I work with the whole picture β€” not just the loudest symptom.
I use functional testing, detailed case history, and a root-cause approach to understand what's actually driving what.

I'm building something new that's designed specifically for women in this position β€” particularly around energy, metabolism, and how the body uses fuel in midlife.
More on that soon.

If you're in Rolleston or Canterbury and would like a faec to face consultation or if you need to work with me online, and you've been wondering whether someone could finally look at the whole tangle β€” that's me.

Ooops!
I posted the wrong video yesterday - thank you to everyone who gently pointed this out to meπŸ˜€

Let me try again!

I'm developing a programme for women who are struggling to lose weight despite genuinely trying β€” and before I build it, I want to understand your real experience.

In this video I ask four questions.
If any of them resonate, I want to hear from you.

DM me or email [email protected] to arrange a time to chat.

No agenda. Just listening.

I need your help.

I'm building a group coaching programme for women who are struggling with their weight and metabolic health despite genuinely trying β€” and before I launch it, I want to hear real experiences from real women.

Are you someone who:

Has been told your results are normal but knows something isn't right?
Is doing the reading, listening to the podcasts, taking the supplements β€” and still not getting answers?
Feels confused by conflicting information and doesn't know who to trust?
Isn't sure that medication is the right answer for you?

I don't want to tell you anything yet.
I want to hear your frustrations, your questions, and find out what you feel you actually need.

If this sounds like you β€” or someone you know β€” please DM me or email [email protected] to arrange a time for a chat.

No agenda. Just listening.

Running on empty has become so normalised that most people don't even recognise it anymore.

They think it's just life. Just being busy. Just getting older.

But in over 20 years of clinical practice, exhaustion that doesn't shift β€” no matter how much you rest β€” is almost never just tiredness. It's your body asking for something it isn't getting.

When someone tells me they're exhausted all the time, there are three things I look at first. And more often than not, the answer isn't complicated. It's just been missed.

If you've been running on empty and accepted it as your new normal β€” I'd gently suggest it doesn't have to be.

I'm based in Rolleston and available online throughout NZ. If this resonates, I'd love to have a conversation.
