Some stories stay with us forever.

🎙️ In this deeply moving episode of The Child Psych Podcast, Tammy sits down with Emily Souder, LCSW-C, PMH-C and Mahaley Patel, LMFT, PMH-C — therapists, mothers, and co-authors of *Your NICU Story: Reflecting on Your Family’s Experience.*

What begins as a conversation about the NICU becomes something much deeper.

Mahaley courageously shares the story of her daughter, Saachi, and the life-changing experience of becoming a mother while navigating uncertainty, fear, love, grief, and loss.

Together, Emily and Mahaley explore the emotional realities many NICU parents carry long after the hospital stay ends — including trauma, attachment, grief, resilience, and the process of making meaning from a story no parent ever expected to live.

This conversation is for every parent who has sat beside a hospital bed hoping for good news.
For every family carrying the weight of medical trauma.
For every mother or father learning how to hold grief and love at the same time.

đź’› While this episode touches on profound loss, it is ultimately a conversation about connection, meaning, healing, and the enduring bond between parent and child.

It is a reminder that every child’s life matters.
Every story deserves to be told.

And no family should have to carry their pain alone.

🎧 Listen now to this powerful conversation about love, loss, healing, and the stories that shape us forever.

Time to play- it's good for you!

So true! One of the five Hand in Hand Tools is "Playlistening", which is where we lean into play, particularly letting our children take the more powerful role. Laughter is a fabulous release and play is one of our children's most natural ways to communicate and process. Yet, this can be hard for some of us adults. We may not have been raised by playful adults, and/or we may have lost the ease of wonder and whimsy.

This is one of the things caregivers work on in the Hand in Hand Community. Join the conversation, or start your own! It's free! Comment "HIHC" for the link.

When the world feels a bit wobbly, many of us will experience all sorts of emotions.

In these moments, small things can help us come back to ourselves: keeping a gentle routine, connecting with people we trust, and focusing on what is within our control.
