1 in 3 people in Aotearoa will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime.

Every single day, 81 of our own hear the words, "You have cancer." These statistics represent our whānau, our friends, and our hapori.

As Daffodil Day approaches, it’s a reminder to look out for one another and take action on our own health. Staying up to date with routine health screenings and getting checked early by a GP can save lives.

The Maramataka teaches us that our energy flows in cycles, just like the environment around us. Some days call for high energy and action, while others invite us to slow down, rest, and reflect.

Understanding your own body’s natural rhythm is a powerful tool for hauora. Listening to where your energy is helps you know when to push forward, when to pause, and when to seek support.

A simple check-in for this week:

Feeling low energy? Give yourself space to rest, recharge, and nourish your mind and body.

Feeling high energy? Use that momentum to check off your health to-dos, like booking a GP check-up or moving your body outdoors.

Me aro koe ki te hā o Hineahuone.

Pay heed to the powerful essence of women 🧡

This Women’s Health Week, we are honouring the vital role wāhine play in our whānau by reminding you to listen to your body and prioritise your wellbeing.

When was the last time you checked in on your health?

Whether it’s booking that overdue cervical screening, scheduling a breast check, getting a routine blood pressure check, or simply chatting with your GP about how you're feeling, your health matters.

Reach out to your local doctor or health clinic to book a routine health check-in!

If you're not registered with a GP, type in your location here for a GP, clinical service or Māori hauora provider near you: https://www.healthpoint.co.nz/

Heartfelt Thanks: Kaumātua’s joy at receiving and giving the greatest gift – life itself 🧡

Today, on World Organ Donation Day, we are sharing a powerful reminder of what the "gift of life" truly means.

"By rights, I should be dead." Nearly 20 years ago, Ngāti Whakaue kaumātua Wiremu Keepa received a lifesaving heart transplant. Fast forward two decades, and he has been given the ultimate gift in return, becoming a dad again at age 69.
Wiremu’s story highlights a vital reality for our people: Māori are often at the front of the queue for needing organs, but are underrepresented as donors due to cultural barriers and lack of information. Wiremu gives thanks to his donor "every hour of every day."

You can read the full story of Wiremu’s journey, his naval career, and how he balances his new heart with his 14-month-old son here: https://www.inprofile.co.nz/inprofile/wiremu-keepa

Coming off the school holidays while balancing daily life pressures can leave anybody running on empty.

This Women’s Health Week, we’re reminding you that taking time for yourself isn't a luxury, it’s essential for your hauora.

When you’re exhausted, your immune system feels it too. Protecting yourself against winter colds and flus starts with simple self-care: resting when you can, nourishing your body, keeping warm, keeping up to date with immunisations and filling your own cup so you have the strength to care for those around you.

Give yourself permission to slow down, book that health check, and recharge this week. You deserve it! 🤍

This whakataukī speaks to the heart of what it means to grow the next generation.

Long before words are spoken, these quiet moments with pēpi are where whānau pass down connection, tikanga, and whakapapa.

Taking care of pēpi starts with taking care of you. 🌸

This World Breastfeeding Week, we’re reminding all māmā to prioritise their own wellbeing, too! Global health research from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and World Cancer Research Fund shows that breastfeeding offers long-term protective health benefits, including a reduced risk of breast cancer.

While you nurture your pēpi, remember to check in on yourself. Reach out to your GP or medical provider to discuss routine health checks, breast self-awareness, and free screening options.

We're proud to support Poipoia Kaumātua, an iwi-led workforce development kaupapa focused on supporting those who care for our kaumātua and people living with long-term health conditions.

Following the recent Poipoia Kaumātua Symposium, the kaupapa is now moving into its next phase - with a focus on practical service delivery, training and growing our own workforce to better support our people.

A big mihi to all our incredible māmā! 🧸✨

This World Breastfeeding Week, we’re celebrating the strength, aroha, and dedication of wāhine across Aotearoa who nurture their pēpi.

Every journey with a newborn is unique, and so are the choices you make for your whānau. Whether you are breastfeeding, mixed feeding, pumping, or navigating change, your choices are rooted in love, care, and what is best for you and your pēpi.

Breastfeeding is more than physical nourishment; it’s connection, warmth, and whakapapa. But it can also come with questions, adjustments, and challenges. Whatever path your feeding journey takes, know that your decisions are valid, and you don't have to walk it alone.

To our māmā: we see you, we honour your choices, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
