๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ’ช Supporting the next generation through our school clinics
At Physio Mechanics, weโ€™re proud to provide onsite physiotherapy services at Pukekohe High School, Strathallan, and James Cook High School โ€” helping students access early injury management and rehabilitation without barriers to care.
๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ Alice, Harneet, and Lisa each lead their respective school clinics, providing ACC or private physiotherapy treatment to support students in recovering from injury and staying active in both sport and school life.
๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ By bringing physiotherapy directly into schools, weโ€™re able to help students access treatment sooner, reduce time away from sport and the classroom, and support long-term health and wellbeing.
๐Ÿ™Œ Because injuries shouldnโ€™t hold students back from doing what they love.

๐Ÿฆด๐Ÿ’ช Meet our Chiropractic team at Physio Mechanics

At Physio Mechanics, our chiropractors play an important role in helping clients move better, reduce pain, and improve overall spinal health through targeted, hands-on care.

๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธ Andrew is based at our Karaka clinic and has been with Physio Mechanics for 9 years, providing experienced chiropractic care focused on identifying and correcting musculoskeletal dysfunction, restoring movement, and supporting long-term spinal health and wellbeing.

๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธ Jens is based at our Pukekohe clinic, where he works with patients to assess and treat spinal and joint dysfunction, helping to relieve pain, improve mobility, and support optimal physical function.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Our chiropractors specialise in identifying and correcting these dysfunctions, helping to restore movement, relieve pain, and optimise spinal health so patients can return to the activities they love.

๐Ÿค And noโ€ฆ who said physios and chiros donโ€™t get along? Around here, we work side by side as one team to get the best outcomes for our patients.

Whitianga Run Festival
โœจ Some of the best team memories aren't made in the clinic.
This weekend, some of the Physio Mechanics crew headed to the Whitianga Run Festival and absolutely crushed it. From half marathons to 10km and 5km events, there were personal bests, huge achievements, family moments, plenty of laughs, and a lot of support for one another. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ˜Š
Watching teammates encourage each other across finish lines and celebrate every milestone was something pretty special. ๐Ÿ‘
We're incredibly proud of everyone who took part. The medals are awesome, but the memories made together will last even longer. What a team!! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ…

RETURNING TO RUNNING AFTER INJURY ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ”„
Getting back to running isnโ€™t just about being pain-free โ€” itโ€™s about making sure your body is ready to handle the load again.
In clinic, we use a range of strength and control tests to guide a safe return to running ๐Ÿ‘‡

Single Leg Calf Raises ๐Ÿฆถ
A common benchmark is ~25 good-quality reps on one leg. This helps ensure your calf and Achilles can tolerate running loads.
Single Leg Strength (LSI) โš–๏ธ
We often look for ~90% Limb Symmetry Index (LSI) โ€” meaning your injured side is close to your uninjured side in strength and function.
Hop Testing ๐Ÿฆ˜
Single leg hops (for distance, control, and repetition) help assess how well your body handles impact and load.
Control & Stability ๐Ÿง
Looking at movement quality through exercises like single leg squats or step-downs โ€” especially through the hip, knee, and ankle.

These tests help answer an important question:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Can your body tolerate the demands of running again?
Returning too early can increase the risk of re-injury, while the right progression builds confidence and resilience ๐Ÿ“ˆ
Every injury and runner is different โ€” so your return-to-run plan should be too.
Come in and see one of the team for an individualised plan to get back on track!

STRENGTH TRAINING FOR RUNNERS ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช
Running is great for fitness, but on its own it doesnโ€™t build the strength your body needs to stay injury-free.
Strength training plays a key role in supporting your running โ€” whether youโ€™re just starting out or training for an event.
Hereโ€™s why it matters:
1. Improves Load Tolerance
Stronger muscles and tendons are better able to handle the repetitive impact of running.
2. Reduces Injury Risk
Strength work can help prevent common issues like Achilles pain, knee pain, and shin splints.
3. Improves Running Efficiency
Better strength and control = less wasted energy with each stride.
4. Enhances Stability & Control
Especially through the hips, knees, and ankles โ€” key areas for runners.

Key areas to focus on:
โ€ข Glutes (hip stability & power) ๐Ÿ‘
โ€ข Quads (knee control) ๐Ÿฆต
โ€ข Hamstrings (posterior chain strength) ๐Ÿฆฟ
โ€ข Calves (essential for running load) ๐Ÿฆถ
โ€ข Core (control & efficiency) ๐Ÿง

Think exercises like:
Squats, deadlifts, lunges, calf raises, and single-leg work โœ”๏ธ
You donโ€™t need hours in the gym โ€” even 2โ€“3 sessions per week can make a big difference.
Like running, itโ€™s all about consistency and progression ๐Ÿ“ˆ
If youโ€™re not sure where to start, we can help guide you with a plan that supports your running goals ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

YOUR RUNNERโ€™S TOOLBOX ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿงฐ
Running puts consistent load through your body โ€” so having the right recovery tools can make all the difference.
At Physio Mechanics, weโ€™ve got everything you need to support your running, recovery, and performance ๐Ÿ‘‡

Foam Roller ๐ŸŒ€
Great for loosening up tight muscles and improving mobility โ€” especially through calves, quads, and glutes.
Lacrosse Ball ๐Ÿ”ต
Perfect for targeting those smaller, hard-to-reach areas like the feet, hips, and upper glutes.
Magnesium ๐Ÿ’Š
Supports muscle recovery, helps reduce cramping, and can improve overall muscle function.
Massage ๐Ÿ’†โ€โ™€๏ธ
Hands-on treatment to reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and help your body recover faster between runs.

Recovery isnโ€™t just about resting โ€” itโ€™s about giving your body the tools it needs to keep moving well.
Whether youโ€™re training for an event or just getting into running, the right support can help you stay consistent and injury-free โœ”๏ธ
