Melanin Rich Skin and Facials

When getting facials on brown or melanin-rich skin, the primary concern is avoiding post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
Because darker skin has more active melanocytes, aggressive treatments, intense heat, or hot steam can trigger skin inflammation and leave stubborn, long-lasting dark spots in place of the intended glow.

The Golden Rule: Customization and CareMany traditional facials and standard Western spa treatments were developed for lighter, less reactive skin types.
On brown skin, redness and tingling should be treated as warning signs rather than a normal "tingly, working" process. Always consult with a licensed professional who specializes in skin of color to ensure treatments are tailored to your specific needs.

Safe Treatments for Melanin-Rich Skin
When done gently and with the correct settings, the following treatments are typically safe and effective for brown skin:

It’s easier than you think, anyone can waffle on but should you believe their words….

Qualifications !
How long have they been in business !
Use your eyes - do they portray an image of what you think a therapist should be?

Ie: if your builder showed up to work without his hammer that’s a big 🚩

Trust: - take advise from a therapist who represents.

Credibility: -is big when it comes to the beauty industry…::especially in Taupo.
We have such a history of therapist opening businesses left right n centre, selling vouchers, promoting themselves as the best and than Nek minute….. shut shop n gone 😏
