Last night, a beautiful return couple welcomed their newest family member earthside. Born in the pool as planned, his clever Mumma went from whoa to go, with the loving support of her proud partner. This gender surprise baby is as cute as a button, with dark hair, just like his big sissy. There were a few teary eyes when his name was revealed. Welcome and Happy BIRTHday handsome boy. X 💙

The first September baby for T-L safely arrived earthside on Friday, the 28th of August. Welcomed via the sunroof, as planned by her smitten parents, and doting big sister. What a gorgeous baby girl! Welcome and Happy BIRTHday for last Friday, sweet, baby girl. X ❤️

A cheeky little queue jumper arrived this morning, in quick time, just like his brothers. Mamma having baby number three was eagerly awaiting her baby boy to arrive, at 38 weeks, just like his two big brothers who arrived dead on 38 weeks, years apart… Yesterday she was 37 weeks 6 days and we laughed in clinic in anticipation of labour starting… maybe…. And yep, this clever mamma went into labour bang on 38 weeks!! She arrived at Taupo Maternity just in time, narrowly missing a carpark delivery. A cute as baby boy with a mop of beautiful dark hair was born within minutes of walking in the door. Even more special, he was born encaul. Beyond its scientific rarity, this unique event has long been steeped in spiritual meanings, myths, and cultural lore. What an absolute star mamma was. Daddy was ever so excited and proud to meet his final son. Congratulations to this wonderful little family.

Well, it's a bit of a sad Western Wednesday today... waking up to the news that the iconic Dolly Parton has passed away aged 80. Dolly was a beautiful, kind, giving, down-to-earth and humorous lady. Expect to hear plenty of her songs today if you are in clinic. Rest in love Dolly... reunited with your beloved husband Carl... and Kenny 💖

Some births don’t go according to plan, and this was one of those journeys. On Monday, it was a privilege to walk alongside this beautiful woman as her birth unfolded in a very different way to what had been hoped for. When circumstances changed, and an emergency C-section became necessary, the focus shifted to one thing — keeping mum and baby safe. While it may not have been the birth she had imagined or planned for, she showed incredible strength and courage as she navigated the unexpected. Sometimes birth asks us to let go of the plan, trust the team around us, and take each moment as it comes. And then, finally, that precious moment arrived — baby boy safely earthside, with a full head of hair and oh-so-chunky! As her midwife, I feel incredibly privileged to have been part of this journey. Birth isn’t always about how we imagined it would happen; sometimes it is about the strength it takes to embrace the unexpected and celebrate the safe arrival of a much-loved baby. Congratulations to this beautiful family. What a journey, and what a privilege to witness it.

In the wee hours of Tuesday morning, the last August baby for T-L made her grand entrance. Her very clever Mumma came into Taupo maternity, fully dilated and ready to bring her baby girl earthside. With loving support from a very proud hubby, and some awesome help from DHB midwife Jemma, a beautiful, dark-haired baby girl arrived. Such a cutie, and already so loved by her older, protective brother. Welcome and Happy BIRTHday for the 11/8, sweet, baby girl. X🩷

On Friday, a beautiful 4th-time mamma and return client finally went into labour after a few days of stop-start niggles. She came into maternity in the hope of being far enough along in labour, and she absolutely was. Mamma had done the hard yards at home and smashed labour out of the park. A waterbirth was on the wish list for this birth, and a beautiful, calm and gentle waterbirth this mamma had, her baby boy swimming up into her loving arms as a proud daddy watched on in awe. Baby also had an extra-special addition: his caul, his protective cloak, his veil... this little boy is blessed with a life of good fortune and protection. Congratulations to this lovely family on the arrival of their smallest baby yet; he's oh so cute!
