Today is World Osteoporosis Day and we are recognising the importance of building strong bones.

Strong bones, together with strong muscles, play an important role in helping you stay active, independent and mobile, and poor bone health can really affect quality of life.

Staying active with regular weight-bearing and muscle strengthening exercises is a great step towards building strong bones and ensuring continued mobility.

If you would like help coming up with an exercise plan to suit your needs, we can help. Just give us a ring or send through an email and we can chat more.

Let's talk strapping!

Physiotherapy strapping can be a simple but effective way to support an injury while you're recovering.

Sports strapping may help by improving your body's awareness of where it is and how it's moving. For many people, this increased awareness makes returning to sport, work, or everyday activities feel more comfortable and controlled.

At Focused, we offer strapping for sports injuries and everyday aches and pains. We can even give you tips and tricks for taping it yourself in future.

Spring gardening season has arrived! We have put together a few tips to help avoid the common back and neck strains that can occur during or after gardening.

đŸŒ±Take regular breaks to give your spine and neck a chance to stretch back the other way after being bent over.

đŸŒ±Use the right tools. Things with long handles allow you to stay more upright, and wheelbarrows can reduce the lifting burden.

đŸŒ±Lift safely by planning first, not rushing, keeping the feet stable and bending from the knees rather than the back

đŸŒ±When doing heavy or strenuous work, such as digging, break the job into smaller sections and spread them across the day or weekend, rather than doing it all at once.

Happy gardening everyone.

Have you heard of shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy uses a pneumatically powered handpiece that generates radial shockwaves, which are sent to the injury site through a conducting gel.

Shockwave therapy is an effective treatment for many tendon injuries and orthopaedic conditions. It can provide immediate pain relief and has also been found to be effective for promoting tendon repair.

Shockwave therapy can be used for a range of conditions, including plantar fasciitis, shin splints, tennis and golfer’s elbow, and Achilles tendinopathy.

No referral is needed to receive shockwave therapy. You will require an initial assessment by one of our qualified physiotherapists to determine if is a suitable treatment for you.

If you’d like to find out more, or make an appointment, get in touch today.

Every move counts.

We often hear about how much movement we should be doing each day, but it’s worth remembering that movement doesn’t have to mean a gym workout or a long run.

A walk with the dog, playing with the kids, gardening, taking the stairs, or simply getting up and moving around during the day all count.

The important thing is to keep moving in ways that work for you. Even small amounts of movement are useful for our bodies and can add up throughout the day.

So whatever movement looks like for you, keep moving.
