Nau mai ki Matariki.
Over this time, we join communities across Aotearoa in celebrating Matariki – a time to reflect on the year that has passed, celebrate the present, and look ahead with hope. This year's national theme, Matariki Herenga Waka – For Everyone, reminds us that while we all arrive from different places, experiences and cultures, we are united by a shared purpose.

Sunday 14 June sees the start of National Volunteer Week (NVW).
A significant moment during International Volunteer Year and an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate volunteering across the motu.

National Volunteer Week is Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest annual celebration of volunteering, led by Volunteering New Zealand to acknowledge the vital contribution of volunteers. While NVW is marked over one week, Volunteering New Zealand supports recognition throughout June via a nationwide Volunteer Shout-Out campaign.

This year’s theme, “Your Year to Volunteer – Tōu tau ki te tūao,” aligns with the International Year of the Volunteer. It both celebrates those already volunteering and encourages others to get involved.

For us here at Hato Hone St John, these celebrations are particularly meaningful to formally acknowledge the impact our volunteers have and reinforce the value of volunteering across the organisation and wider community. NVW provides an opportunity to show and celebrate how essential volunteers are to our mission and impact – we value volunteers as true partners and are committed to providing a positive and seamless volunteer experience. Everyone has a role in enabling meaningful volunteering.
