Important patient update

We are aware that some patients received an unexpected email from Upper Hutt Health Centre yesterday, including some patients receiving multiple emails or emails at unusual times.

We sincerely apologise for the confusion and inconvenience this has caused.

We can reassure you that this isn’t spam and was intended to be the sharing of our latest practice newsletter which could be accessed via an attachment in the Vensa patient portal.

We are urgently investigating what happened with our portal vendor and we are taking steps to ensure the issue is resolved moving forward.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to resolve this.

🎉 Exciting News! Dr Laia Silva is Returning!

We are pleased to announce that Dr Laia Silva will be returning from maternity leave and seeing patients starting Thursday, 13th August! 🩺❤️

Dr Silva will be working Thursday’s and Fridays in August increasing back to four days in October.

Our Clinical Trials team at Upper Hutt Health Centre is currently looking for participants to take part in exciting new research studies.

Eczema Studies
Do you (or someone you know) have difficult-to-control eczema? We’re running two studies for adults with persistent symptoms. Some participants have already seen meaningful improvements.

COPD Studies
We’re also recruiting for COPD studies for people who still experience symptoms despite using regular inhalers. These trials are exploring new treatments aimed at reducing flare-ups.

✨ Taking part in a clinical trial may give you access to new treatments while helping improve care for others in the future.

📢 HPV Vaccination Update for Parents & Caregivers:

From 27 July 2026, schools will offer one dose of the HPV vaccine (Gardasil9) as part of the School-Based Immunisation Programme. Having a 2nd dose can further boost protection.

Need a second dose?

It's still FREE and is available at least six months after the first dose.

If your child has received their HPV vaccine at school and you'd like them to complete the two-dose course, we're here to help.

Nurse Practitioner Melissa Riddall Takes the Lead at UHHC's Women's Health Clinic
Upper Hutt Health Centre is pleased to announce that experienced Nurse Practitioner Melissa Riddall has stepped into the role of lead clinician for our Women's Health Clinic.

Melissa brings a genuine passion and special interest in women's health, and is dedicated to providing personalised, compassionate care to women across all stages of life. Her focus is on empowering patients and supporting their holistic wellbeing, in line with the values that have always underpinned our Women's Health Clinic.

About the Women's Health Clinic
The clinic is a female-led service dedicated to addressing the unique healthcare needs of women at every stage of life, from adolescence to pregnancy, motherhood, and through to menopause and beyond. The clinic offers a comprehensive range of services, including:

• Menopausal support
• Contraception counselling and management (including Mirena and Jadelle insertions/removals)
• Menstrual health management
• Gynaecological concerns and pelvic health
• Prenatal care
• Pessary reviews and community investigations

This clinic is available to all women including those not registered at UHHC and can be accessed via self-referral or referral from a medical practitioner. Depending on individual circumstances, some procedures may be fully funded or partially subsidised.

We’re always looking for ways to make accessing care easier for our community. Alongside our evening GP appointments, we’re now trialling a limited number of evening nurse clinics commencing June 22nd.

✨ If these appointments are popular, we’ll look to make them a regular offering!

What you can book for:

• Immunisations (child, adult, and travel)
• HPV screening
• Blood pressure monitoring
• Wound care and dressings
• Iron or Aclasta infusions
• And many other standard nursing services

How to book:

Spaces are limited, so give our friendly reception team a call on 04 920 1800 to secure your spot or check if your appointment is suitable for the evening clinic.

⚠️ Important message for our patients and community ⚠️

We have recently been made aware of a scam where an individual has contacted a patient while pretending to be one of our GPs. They did this to request a payment be made to them personally via gift cards.

We want to be very clear:
Upper Hutt Health Centre staff will never contact you to ask for money or any gift in this way.

If you ever receive a call, message, or email that seems unusual or requests payment directly to an individual, please do not engage. Instead, contact us directly using our official phone number to verify.

We take the privacy and safety of our patients very seriously and appreciate your vigilance.
