A moment to honour the teachings bestowed onto us from Grand Master Edward Karauria and Tane’s Master from his previous club. Our team graded under the NZ MĀORI TAEKWONDO federation. Triple graded and the last time this occurred was with myself and Lex (Master Eds son). Our team took out gold and bronze for their fights a week after their grading. The teachings from your masters are a living legacy. Our work as Te Whānau Āio is the practice of being it, being the embodiment as passed on from our Masters, Shihans and Grand Masters. Black represent TE KORE, Red and blue, the teachings of Papatuānuku with blood flow and the veins. This is our embodiment practice. Always an honour to see home; Ngati Porou Taekwondo taking it out with my beautiful sister Sensei Ngapae. Congratulations to our nieces Tiahn and Jasmine on cometing with Tiahn taking gold for Ngati Porou. Proud of the mahi in motion. looking forward to our Tū Taua training leading into grading 🥷

“As Tangata Whenua and Oceanic Origins.” - Our fundamentals are BODY, MEMORY & CONNECTION.

“If you don’t get to know your body you become NOBODY”.

We don’t wield a weapon when we haven’t wielded the first weapon OUR BODY. If we don’t know our body and how it understands guardianship we’ll take part in choreography that looks like guardianship but we don’t have the experience in us to truly hold that role. It’s similar to asking someone non indigenous to play an indigenous. You can tell when one has not lived it. Our desire is to be authentic to who we are not anyone else. For us, we cannot be kaitiaki if we don’t have a relationship to our own body first.

ĀMA trainings. To teach lead and guide you must be loyal in energy, relationship or code of life, if your teachers are reckless behind the scenes it will flow into your Mārae - you’ll practice these addictions without knowing. Be weary of who you learn from, you’ll become the practice that’s oozing out. Thankful to our Master Edward Karauria, Sensei Gabriel Terekia, Sensei Te Wehi Kore Karena, Shihan Solomon Purcell and Shihan Dwayne Davies for the teachings to uphold the standard of the way of life. These are our examples
