Turongo Collective Native guardianship of indigenous practices. Indigenous mentorship sovereignty The collective facilitate “learn by doing” experiences.

Tūrongo Collective are first and foremost Whānau/Fanau oriented in indigenous teachings and principles. Performance activations, workshops, relationship facilitation, story telling, physical guidance response, alchemy, healing, weaponry in order to reinvigorate uncomfortable learning, sharing and processing to be accepted as a value. The collective have been connecting for the last 8 years but became a legal entity in the last few years. The processes have been shared within indigenous companies, teams, dance companies, institutes, schools, colleges, charities, trust funds and youth prisons. The collective are most commonly identified with working within the justice system as a support union for individuals to lean on. The collective have a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds and therefore have no ONE identifiable culture other than the culture of learning how to amalgamate togetherness. Participants experience a whole - listic approach to physical arrangements of sequences, elemental vocal work, mau rakau contexts, Connection (martial arts) that have an authentic tone in the practices. These sequences are then encouraged to be translated to each individuals own contexts with the support of collective or group learning and trust.

E tū kauwae runga e tū kauwae raro! Whakahōnoretia nga hononga ki nga pūrākau o nga Ariki Tapairu, Nga Toto Kahurangi me nga ao tuhi Māreikura haramai te toki. ⚡️

Igniting the stories of our chiefly bloodlines with the reactivation of the stories of our pigments. Among these stories from our to’unga, our old ones are few but still thriving, stories regarding our ancestors in ritual in full pigments.

Pigments are conduits to worlds within worlds, but before we give away more then we should about our Wai Tawhito the stories of our ancient whakapapa/lineage it’s better if you experience it.

We open officially next week for two nights only, book your tickets in for a full throttle ride with no brakes. Let the devices of the current world bring you back to “what’s real”….

As we as Māori know, when you can’t describe it…you are speaking THEIR language, as their language needs no tongue no body ….

🎭 The last of the threads are being fine tuned It’s been a short few weeks stitching together the rituals and acknowledgements. 🩸Our ability to share and express what emulates from our own bloodlines is a relationship that is personal to how each individual relates to their ancestry.

🎥Many may write, film, document, hypothesise about indigenous but stories about us, that don’t exist from within the peoples context cannot reflect us truly.

Each tribe, has differing opinions interpretations and beliefs.

🧬Wai Tawhito expresses relationships to time and ritual is an embodiment, that if forgotten about may interfere with one’s connection. It supersedes time as omniscient.

🌀Our Pou, Wikitoria shares her relationship to the development of Wai Tāwhito and it’s unearthing.

🎭Te Whānau Āio will share an excerpt from Wai Tāwhito in the opening event Tākiritia on September 10th.
