Today we’re going to go back to the very popular webinar we held earlier in the year with Ella Sargent from Manawa Māori on ‘Te reo Māori in a clinical setting’, where we delved into why tikanga Māori integration is increasingly expected in Aotearoa healthcare, delivering karakia, and the hui process.

Trauma-informed practice, workplace culture, and a panel discussion with four experts - here's what's on the agenda for our wellbeing seminar session at Te Aka Tauwhiro, Aotearoa Anaesthesia Trainee Meeting.

Dr Isobella Henzell will discuss Trauma-informed Care and supporting patients and clinicians in anaesthetic practice. Isobella is a member of the ANZCA Trauma Informed Care Working Group, contributing to national efforts to embed trauma-informed principles into anaesthetic practice, and sits on the NZ Trainee Committee, where she is a strong advocate for trainee welfare.

Specialist Anaesthetist Dr Nola Ng, Wellbeing Lead for the Resident Doctors Support Service, will take us further into our wellbeing discussion. Nola holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education and a Graduate Diploma in Science specialising in Psychology, and draws on this background in her work shaping healthier workplace structures.

Followed by a panel discussion with our speakers, Isobella and Nola, alongside Dr Rachel Dempsey and Dr Willem Odendaal.

Are you heading overseas for a fellowship in 2027 and unsure if you're eligible:
✔️ an NZ citizen or permanent resident who has completed more than 50% of your anaesthesia training in New Zealand hospitals.
✔️ Passed the final examination for the Diploma of Fellowship in the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
✔️ At the time the scholarship is awarded, have completed all of the requirements of advanced training and are eligible to proceed to Provisional Fellowship training (PFT).
✔️ Intending to return to New Zealand for a minimum of three years to work in anaesthesia following the completion of their fellowship or the period of study that the scholarship may be awarded for.
