How often do you think about your gut health?

Your gut plays a key role in digestion, nutrient absorption, immune function, and overall wellbeing. The good news is that small, everyday habits can help support a healthier gut, from eating more fibre and staying active to making balanced nutrition choices.

This Bowel Cancer Awareness Month is a great reminder that looking after your health starts with the basics.

Bowel health is something many people don't think about until a problem arises, but understanding your risk factors and knowing when to seek advice can make a real difference.

Endoscopy procedures, including colonoscopy, provide valuable insights into bowel health and can help investigate symptoms, monitor existing conditions, and support the diagnosis of a range of gastrointestinal concerns.

Whether you have a family history of bowel cancer, ongoing digestive symptoms, or simply want to better understand your bowel health, speaking with a healthcare professional is an important first step.

During Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, take the opportunity to learn more about your bowel health and the services available to support you.

This Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, we’re highlighting the importance of early detection and access to advanced diagnostic technology.

Bowen Hospital has invested $600,000 in a new state-of-the-art Olympus Aplio i800 endoscopic ultrasound system, enhancing the capability of our Advanced Endoscopy Centre and supporting earlier, more precise diagnosis of complex gastrointestinal conditions.

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is one of the most valuable tools available for assessing conditions of the digestive system, helping specialists detect abnormalities earlier, accurately stage disease and guide treatment decisions.

This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to bringing advanced healthcare technology to our communities and improving outcomes for patients across the Wellington region.
