Currently we’re behind our plasma collections target and need more donations from our local community to help get us back on track.
In Wellington, we need at least 336 plasma donations each week to help us reach our national target of collecting a minimum of 25,000 donations by 30 November to ensure we finish the year on track before the Christmas break.
It’s been a hard year for plasma donations generally and more recently, the severe and prolonged influenza season has significantly impacted donations from many regular donors, while demand for plasma-based products remains high.
If you can donate plasma once, or even better twice, before 30 November now is the time. You'll help ensure patients across New Zealand continue receiving the vital treatments they rely on.
Whether it's your first donation or your fiftieth, every plasma donation makes a difference. Together, Wellington locals can help close the gap.

Swab to save a life this World Marrow Donor Day!

If you're aged 18-35, you can join the New Zealand Bone Marrow Registry by visiting their website and requesting a cheek swab kit to be delivered to your home.

Only around 1 in every 1,000 people on the registry is called upon to donate each year.
You could be the one who helps give someone a second chance at life! ❤️

I think it's time we had a conversation... 👀

Right now, more than 500 New Zealanders are waiting for a corneal transplant to restore their sight, while many more need donated eye tissue to help restore eye function after disease or trauma.

This Eye Tissue Donation Awareness Week, we're encouraging Kiwis to have an important conversation with their whānau about their organ and tissue donation wishes after death. Every donation conversation matters. When your loved ones know your wishes, they are better able to honour them when the time comes.

Many people are surprised to learn that many people aged 10 to 85 can be considered for eye tissue donation, even if they have poor eyesight or have had LASIK surgery.

New Zealand currently relies on donated eye tissue from overseas to meet demand, with more than a third of corneas used for transplant in 2025 sourced from other countries. By having a conversation today, you could help create more opportunities for sight-restoring transplants here in Aotearoa.

Today, the Wellington Blood Bank welcomed the Minister of Health, Hon Simeon Brown to officially open its new purpose-built blood bank, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter after almost 50 years in their previous home.

Behind these doors, a dedicated team works 24/7 to carry out more than 40,000 specialist tests every year, helping ensure donated blood products are safe and ready for the people who need them most.

With nearly three times the space, this new facility will help the team continue supporting patients across the region for years to come.

Today is about more than opening a new building. It's about celebrating the people whose expertise, care and dedication help make it all possible.️
