Te Pūkāea o te Waiora is our Ngāti Awa (on behalf of the EBOP Iwi Provider Alliance) led “front door” that receives Reports of Concern (tamariki reports of neglect and harm) for the EBOP diverting tamariki and rangatahi out of the Oranga Tamariki system and wrapping around navigator support where required.
In preparation for the proposed transfer of statutory delegations from Oranga Tamariki to Te Pūkāea and the upcoming launch of a second “Family front door” Te Kupenga Aroha, a small leadership team had the privilege of attending IPSCO Congress in Melbourne. We were exposed to a vast range of research projects, policy debate and First Nations practice learnings via SNAIC and a V***A site visit. Both amazing Aboriginal led care and protection organisations. Great learnings and shared hope and vision for the reduction of ongoing harm to tamariki and state care intervention into the lives of tamariki Māori and their whanau. We’re looking forward to implementing some of our new knowledge.
