HISTORY SHORTS
"In 1914 the nation went to war. During the war period the ambulance divisions were very largely denuded of members. To such an extent did the enlistments take place that in some instances it was found quite impossible to keep the units going. The nursing divisions too did noble work. A Roll of Honour, containing the names of members of the Brigade who left New Zealand on Active Service... contains 343 names, the divisions contributing the largest numbers of members being Whanganui 53, Dunedin 43, Auckland 23, Wellington 21, Invercargill 17."
