Last month, we had the privilege of working alongside Jenny Firmin and her kairāranga whānau, creating an opportunity for whānau to weave their own wahakura for their pēpi.
Throughout the wānanga, whānau learned the art of raranga while also connecting with the pūrākau, tikanga and mātauranga woven within each wahakura. Together, they laid whakapapa, reflected on their hopes and intentions for their pēpi, explored the roles of taha wāhine and taha tāne and identified the people and supports that walk alongside them.
The wānanga beautifully interwove mātauranga māori and safe sleep practices, creating space for learning, connection and reflection. For many of our whānau, it was their first time weaving a wahakura, and it was a privilege to be able to support them in creating something so special for their pēpi.
Ngā mihi to Jenny and the kairāranga for sharing their knowledge and creating such a meaningful experience for our whānau. 🤍
