Celebrating the language, culture and communities of the Kingdom of Tonga.

This year, the theme is all about celebrating music as a vital strand of Tongan culture:

www.rerengatahi.nz supporting businesses in te tai tokerau, have a look whānau

Rerengātahi is a collaborative tamaiti of He Iwi Kotahi Tatou and proudly developed by Red inc media. Umbrellaed by Ngā Manga Pūriri in recent years (and years to come), Olivia has been able to do some awesome mahi leading the rerengātahi project - including offering a free space for local businesses to show off and sell their products online.

Today, Ngā Manga Pūriri appeared before the Whangārei District Licensing Committee to formally oppose an on-licence application.

​As a kaupapa Māori service provider for mental health, addictions, and gambling-related harm, our primary focus remains on reducing alcohol-related harm, mitigating pokie machine impacts, and protecting the mental health and well-being of our whānau and community.

Amohāpai - ​Operations Lead, Te Hiwi Preston led the submission on behalf of Ngā Manga Pūriri, supported by:

• Delaraine Armstrong – Board Chair
• Raylene Davis – Tāngata Voice
• Tokoiti Muaulu – Problem Gambling Foundation of NZ (pictured).

​Community Navigation Lead Dave 'Bear' Hookway also submitted in opposition, supported by Dr Grant Hewison (Barrister) and Cath Healey (Tumuaki / General Manager, Te Rangihaeata Oranga, Ahuriri).

Te Ātea Hub Dawn Opening.

A collaboration between Te Uri o Hau Tangata Development, He Iwi Kotahi Tātou Trust, Te Hau Awhiowhio o Otangarei Trust and Ngati Hine Health Trust collectively know as Tai Timu Tai Pari.

Te Tea is the new community facing hub of the Tama-Ariki kaupapa through the work of Enabling Communities with Oranga Tamariki.

Ngā Manga Pūriri were represented by Amo Kāhui (Leadership Team) Saadiq Tua Amorangi - Tikanga and Cultural Lead and Te Hiwi Preston Amohāpai - Operations Lead.

Working collectively to keep mokopuna safe within our own spaces whilst ensuring mokopuna are connected to the best support systems.

The new whare is open Monday - Friday from 9AM - 3PM, located on 11 James Street, Whangārei CBD.

The opening also acknowledged the recent passing of patron, Whaea Cath Diamond, moe mai e kui!

Time is of the essence, and we are encouraging all of our people to register to enrol to vote. If you, your whānau, a friend or a close associate are unsure.

Simply go to www.vote.nz to check if you are enrolled. If you want to switch to the Māori Roll, you have until Thursday 6th August 11:59PM (Yes, this Thursday).

After this, you will not have another opportunity to enrol or register on the Māori Roll.

If you wish to stay on the general roll, kei te pai. The most important thing is that you are participating in this year's General Election.

Yesterday was an important and momentous occasion.

Amohāpai - Operation Lead for Ngā Manga Pūriri, Te Hiwi Preston who is also the Board Chair of Fale Pasifika Te Tai Tokerau attended the launch of Leveki Kenesa - Pacific Cancer Support Programme. Meaning, for the first time, Te Tai Tokerau have their first Pasifika Navigator for Te Tai Tokerau.

The Navigator will be based out of Fale Pasifika, who KIWA, an external collective of professionals, lived experience tangata and providers has partnered with.

Ngā Manga Pūriri have a long standing partnership and working relationship with Fale Pasifika spanning 25 years.

We are fortunate that our Amohāpai was one of the main authors of the business case to Te Whatu Ora and member of KIWA.
