We are a 25 bed Care Home situated 3kms from the Winton township providing a wonderful rural environment, we care for young adults from the age of 10 years old to our centenarians. ung and old as well as respected end of life palliative care. Our activities and outings are many and varied and we strive to
accommodate individual resident’s interests and preferences as much as possible. Owners Darren and Vicky, both registered nurses, live on site with their children, providing a real family atmosphere they would love to share with you.

Our residents are at the heart of everything we achieve at Rata Park 💛 And sometimes, they’re quite literally the stars of it ⭐️

Last week I was incredibly grateful to be recognised as a finalist at the NZ Society of Diversional and Recreational Therapists Conference for our Git Up dance video — an entry that was only possible because our residents were willing to get involved, have some fun and give something different a go 🥰

We’re lucky to work somewhere that encourages us to keep learning, push ourselves and try new things, but this recognition belongs just as much to the people who brought that idea to life 🎉

Something our residents and the whole Rata Park team should be incredibly proud of — look what we can achieve together 💛

A frosty Southland morning wasn’t enough to stop our adventure today ❄️❤️

Wrapped up warm, we climbed aboard the big red bus and headed to Riverton for lunch by the beach, before visiting Colac Bay and finishing the day exploring Monkey Island 🌊

The fresh sea air, beautiful scenery, and wonderful company made for a fantastic day out. Winter might be chilly, but it’s no match for great memories and a little Southland adventure 💛

Today we celebrated Les and Martin’s birthdays 💛

Les kept everyone on their toes with his quick wit and banter, while Martin was busy sharing his knowledge and enjoying a good chat, as always.

A fantastic day out for some of our residents today! ❄️🎉

Les, Leon, Myles, Colin, Nina, Callum and Francis enjoyed a visit to the Tisbury Hall Midwinter Carnival, trying their luck at the carnival games and eating some popcorn. We then headed into town for a well-earned lunch before making our way home.

A wonderful way to spend a winter’s day ! 💛

Meet Erin – our woman of all trades! Splitting her time between being one of our talented chefs and a motivational therapist, Erin is always ready to jump in wherever she’s needed.

A devoted family woman, Erin brings the same love and care to Rata Park that she does at home. Loud, bubbly and full of fun, she’s made a big impression on both residents and staff in the short time she’s been with us.

A change of scenery and a bucket of balls made for the perfect afternoon! ⛳️😊

Sheina, Colin, Leon, Myles and Nina had an absolute blast at the driving range today, although fair to say we may have missed more balls than we hit 😅

Laughter really is contagious 💛

Today, Emma from Age Concern Southland brought their incredible Virtual Reality (VR) experience to Rata, giving our residents the chance to step into worlds they may never otherwise get to explore 🌎

From floating peacefully in a hot air balloon to racing around a track and braving a roller coaster, today’s adventures had everyone smiling. Colin and Nina embraced every moment—and Lexi and I couldn’t resist joining them!

The laughter you’ll hear in this video is completely genuine. We were all so immersed in the experience that we couldn’t help but laugh together 🥰

The best part? Age Concern Southland will be bringing the VR programme back every month, giving every resident the chance to enjoy experiences like these.

As Colin took off the headset, he smiled and said, “What an experience. Thank you for picking me.” - I don’t think we could ask for a better review than that 💛

🍦 Did you know today is National Ice Cream Day? 🍦

Fun fact: National Ice Cream Day was officially proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1984! 🍨

To celebrate, we spent the morning finding out everyone’s favourite ice cream flavours and toppings. Once the shopping list was complete, Kane, Francis, Nina and Callum headed to New World to pick up all the ingredients.

This afternoon, everyone enjoyed creating their own delicious ice cream treat. Every bowl was different, and there were plenty of smiles all around! 🍦

Now the only question is… what’s your favourite ice cream flavour? 😋🍨
