Everyone at Blind Sport New Zealand is incredibly proud to see our board member Kerrin Wheeler progress to the Para Mixed Pairs B2-B3 Semi-Finals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Kerrin is competing alongside his director and father, Colin Wheeler, with teammates Sonya Woodrow and Kimberly Carraher.
New Zealand will take on Scotland in the semi-final, with a chance to advance to the gold medal match. Watch it tomorrow morning NZ time at 6am on Tuesday 28 July ( which is 7:00pm Monday 27 July, Glasgow).

The team features Sonya Woodrow as lead and Kerrin Wheeler as skip. In pairs bowls, the lead sets up the end and builds the head, while the skip is the tactical leader who makes the key strategic decisions and plays the final bowls under pressure. 😎

We have a few last minute spots left for the 2026 Blind Sport NZ Emerging Athlete Weekend in Christchurch 21st to 23rd August.

This opportunity isn't just for athletes in athletics, cycling, or swimming. We are keen to hear from blind and low vision athletes with competitive goals in Any sport. Age 13 is a guide, not a must. Get in touch to ask any questions.

A major feature of the weekend is the opportunity to access a national classification slot, something that can be difficult to access in New Zealand. If classification has been on your radar, this could be a valuable opportunity for you!

Athletes at this weekend will also have the chance to:
🔹 Connect with other athletes who are serious about their sporting ambitions
🔹 Spend time in a high-performance sporting environment
🔹 Hear from Paralympics New Zealand, athletes and coaches about pathways and opportunities
