Dengue Awareness Month is officially observed every June in the Philippines. Led by the Department of Health (DOH) and the Local Government Units (LGUs), the campaign aims to prevent outbreaks during the rainy season by promoting environmental cleanup and mosquito population control.

The Aliaga Municipal Health Office advocate the 5S Strategy against dengue:

โ€ข Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites
โ€ข Self-protection measures (e.g., wearing long sleeves and using mosquito repellent)
โ€ข Seek early consultation at the first sign of fever
โ€ข Support fogging or spraying in local areas with clustering cases
โ€ข Sustain hydration

Because the disease spikes during the wet season, local health centers and hospitals โ€” typically roll out community-wide clean-up drives, free health education seminars, and rapid diagnostic initiatives throughout the month.

The National Tuberculosis Program has intensified TB case detection through community-based screening, focused on Key Vulnerable Populations. This includes chest X-ray screening using mobile X-ray vans, lectures, and workshops promoting TB awareness, early detection, and prevention.

โ€œThese proactive measures are vital in identifying and managing TB cases early, especially in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas,โ€ the NTP team stated. Confirmed cases are promptly enrolled in TB medication programs or tuberculosis preventive treatment (TPT), depending on the diagnosis.

The success of the activity relies on the continuous support of our Municipal Mayor, Gilbert G. Moreno and the active participation and initiatives of our Municipal Health Office with our partnered NGO, Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and active community involvement.

With sustained health education, vigilant monitoring, and strong public engagement, NTP Team continues to make significant strides in reducing TB transmission and improving health outcomes in the municipality.
