Breaking the Stigma of Addiction
At Fortis Recovery & Treatment Center, we believe that recovery is not just about stopping the behavior. It is also about rebuilding self-worth, relationships, confidence, and a meaningful life.
One of the biggest barriers to recovery is stigma.
Stigma can create shame, isolation, fear of asking for help, and the belief that change is no longer possible.
But addiction does not define a person’s worth.
Here are 7 ways to face the stigma of addiction:
1. Recognize and accept the problem.
2. Don’t try to recover alone. Reach out and allow others to support you.
3. Be honest about what you’re feeling and experiencing.
4. Become a positive example in your community.
5. Take responsibility without carrying shame.
6. Develop healthy coping skills.
7. Create a recovery game plan and commit to it.
Remember:
You are responsible for your recovery, but you don’t have to carry shame for your past.
Asking for help is not weakness.
Choosing recovery is not something to be ashamed of.
Your past may be part of your story, but it does not have to be the end of it.
At Fortis Recovery & Treatment Center, we believe that every person deserves an opportunity to heal, grow, and build a better life.
Break the stigma. Ask for help. Choose recovery.
