Language carries culture.
For children, the language they hear and use at home can be one of the ways they learn about family, relationships, values, and belonging.
In Filipino, words like po, opo, ate, and kuya are more than vocabulary. They reflect how we recognize relationships and express respect for others. When children learn these words, they are also given everyday opportunities to practice culturally meaningful ways of relating to people around them.
This Buwan ng Wika, let’s remember that teaching our language is also one way of passing on our culture.
At Likha, we believe development is shaped by the child’s relationships, family, community, and culture. 🌱
Our language carries the stories of who we are—and gives children a way to belong.
