⛑️🏥 ASMGH Conducts Trauma Essentials Training for Hospital Healthcare Providers

Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital Nursing Service Division successfully conducted the Trauma Essentials for Hospital Healthcare Providers Training for Emergency Room nurses on July 4 and 5, 2026 at the 3rd Floor, Provincial Health Office Building, strengthening the hospital’s capacity in emergency and trauma care management.

The two-day training aimed to enhance the competencies of ER nurses in the assessment and management of trauma cases, ensuring timely, accurate, and coordinated response in critical situations. It focused on improving clinical decision-making, teamwork, and adherence to essential trauma care principles in emergency settings.

Day 1 featured lectures on the Essential Principles of Trauma Care, emphasizing systematic patient assessment through primary and secondary surveys, airway and breathing management, circulation assessment, and prioritization of life-saving interventions. The discussions also highlighted early recognition of life-threatening conditions and effective coordination among healthcare providers.

Day 2 focused on hands-on learning through demonstrations, simulation exercises, and scenario-based activities designed to strengthen practical skills in trauma response and emergency decision-making.

The training was led by Course Director CPO Roy Joseph T. Trinidad, MD, PN (Res) and facilitated by a multidisciplinary team from various agencies, including the Philippine Navy Reserve, the Philippine Society of General Surgeons – Panay Chapter, and the Philippine College of Surgeons – Panay Chapter. They were joined by co-facilitators PO1 Krisha Eloisa P. Gumban, RN, PN (Res); SGT John Noel M. But, PN (M) (Res); Jose Gerald A. Sadiang-abay, EMT; Pepito M. Biclar Jr, MD, AEMC; and Angelo V. Quintana, EMT.

ASMGH, serving as the catchment hospital of the province, regularly handles trauma cases, with vehicular accidents identified as one of the most common causes. The training supports the hospital’s goal of ensuring that its Emergency Room is equipped with skilled nurses capable of delivering prompt and competent trauma care, in line with its guiding principle: “Naga-tatap kag naga-ulikid.”

The initiative reflects ASMGH’s continued commitment to professional development, patient safety, and the delivery of responsive and quality healthcare services to the community.
