What is Autistic Pride Day?

Autistic Pride Day was established in 2005 by Aspies For Freedom, an autistic-led organization. Created by and for autistic people, it celebrates autistic identity, community, and the understanding that autism is a natural part of human diversity rather than something that needs to be cured.

Many autistic individuals and families prefer the term “autistic person” because it reflects identity-first language, recognizing autism as an integral part of who they are rather than something separate from their identity.

What makes it different from other autism-related observances?

Autism Acceptance Month encourages the broader community to learn about autism, challenge misconceptions, and foster greater acceptance and inclusion of autistic people.

Autistic Pride Day, however, focuses specifically on autistic identity and self-celebration. It is a day for autistic people to embrace who they are, recognize their strengths and unique perspectives, and celebrate their community with pride.

A lot of people are surprised to learn that ABA isn't just something that happens during therapy sessions. Many of the strategies used in ABA can be practiced at home and fit naturally into everyday life.

Things like giving your child choices, praising them when they do something well, following a routine, or breaking a task into smaller steps are all examples of strategies families can use every day. In fact, many parents are already doing some of these without even realizing it.

The goal is to help children learn skills that are useful in their daily lives. When families are involved and skills are practiced at home, learning becomes more natural, meaningful, and easier to carry over into real-world situations.

There’s something incredibly special about watching a child accomplish something on their own for the first time.

Maybe it’s tying their shoes, asking for help, making a choice, or completing a daily task independently. To some, these may seem like small moments. To us and to their families they’re milestones worth celebrating.

Building independence isn’t about expecting someone to do everything alone. It’s about helping individuals with autism develop the skills and confidence they need to navigate everyday life in ways that work for them.

Every new skill learned, every challenge overcome, and every step toward greater independence tells a story of growth. We’re grateful to support that journey and celebrate every success along the way.

As we celebrate Philippine Independence Day, our center will have NO CLASSES on June 12, 2026 (Friday).

Today, we honor the strength, sacrifice, and resilience of the Filipino people — values we also see every day in the children and families we serve. May this holiday be a time to rest, reflect, and enjoy meaningful moments with your loved ones.
