PRC Observes Philippine Optometry Week

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Through Proclamation No. 985, Series of 1997 (Declaring the Period from June 1 to 7, 1997, and every year thereafter as “Philippine Optometry Week”, the entire nation highlights the significant weight and importance of having an accessible and people-centered eye care of each Juan and Juana. This yearly observance underscores the invaluable role of optometrists in the campaign and promotion of healthy vision, the education of preventable eye concerns, and the assistance of productive and well-accomplished lives.

Together with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC / Commission), the Professional Regulatory Board of Optometry (PRB-OPT), professionals, Industry partners, and stakeholders synergize together in building and bringing quality vision care closer to underserved sectors and encouraging every Filipino to prioritize regular eye check-ups, we emphasize the words of Dr. George S. Chua: “Good vision is not a privilege—it is a necessity that empowers people to live, learn, and work with dignity.” Such statement mirrors the profession’s commitment to ensuring that vision care remains compassionate, inclusive, and accessible to all.

The Philippine Optometry Week serves as a reminder that eye health is an important part of everyone’s overall wellness and health. Thus, the public is encouraged to support and to actively participate in the initiatives that promote accessible eye care and recognize the contributions of the optometry profession in building healthier and more empowered and visualized communities.

With schools almost back, more children have been visiting the clinic for eye check-ups through the PhilHealth Konsulta Program. 👓📚

Many young patients experience blurred vision, headaches, or difficulty seeing clearly in class without realizing they may already need proper correction. Early eye care can make a big difference in their learning, confidence, and daily activities.

We encourage PhilHealth member parents to take advantage of this opportunity and have their children aged 0–15 checked before the school year begins—including eyeglasses worth up to ₱2,500 for qualified beneficiaries under the program. 💚

Honored to have been visited by Kidlat Tahimik, a pioneering Filipino filmmaker, writer, and artist widely regarded as the “Father of Philippine Independent Cinema.” Known for his groundbreaking, deeply personal films that explore Filipino identity, culture, and indigenous narratives, he continues to shape a unique and influential voice in world cinema.

Re-Vision Optical Clinic is grateful for his continued trust in allowing us to care for his vision—a privilege for someone who continues to redefine how we see art, culture, and identity. ⚡️🎬
