ASD fact of the day: Did you know that Sensory Integration is used as a therapyβπ΅π»ββοΈ
π Children with neurodevelopmental disorders, like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and others, may experience Sensory Integration Disorder. This refers to as a sensation-perception problem for children with ASD, as they may over or under react to one or more of their senses (e.g., sense of touch, hearing, etc.).
π This is the very reason why β¨sensory integration becomes part of the therapyβ¨. It focuses on three somatosensories of the body, the tactile, vestibular, and proprioceptive. Studies have shown that these three contribute a lot to a child's development, specifically in their responses when a stimulus is presented. Thus, improving these senses by exposure and more could manifest a better growth for them, especially in ASD. Sensory Integration is part of Occupational therapy and Physical therapy.
π Here at Little Discoverers Education Hub, we promote the use of Sensory Integration with caution for the children's improvement and development that, we believe, will continue as they grow as individuals in the future. π±β¨
