Lk 1:39-58
The Almighty has done great things for me: he has raised up the lowly.

Mary set out
and traveled to the hill country in haste
to a town of Judah,
where she entered the house of Zechariah
and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Maryโs greeting,
the infant leaped in her womb,
and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said,
โBlessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears,
the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled.โ
And Mary said:
โMy soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.โ
Mary remained with her about three months
and then returned to her home.

My dear brothers and sisters,
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Gospel presents to us Mary visiting Elizabeth. At first, this may seem like an ordinary visit between two relatives. But it reveals the whole journey of Mary's life: she received Christ, carried Christ, served others, and finally entered into the glory of Christ.
Elizabeth says to Mary: โBlessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.โ
Mary's greatness began with her โyesโ to God. She trusted God even when she did not understand everything. She carried Jesus in her womb and immediately went out to serve Elizabeth.
This is the beauty of Mary's life: she never kept God's grace only for herself. She carried Christ to others.
And today, in the Assumption, we see where that faithful โyesโ ultimately leads. Mary, who carried Christ in her earthly life, is now brought into the fullness of life with Christ in heaven.
The Assumption reminds us that our final destination is not this world, but God. Mary shows us what God desires for every faithful disciple: that our earthly journey will one day end in the fullness of communion with Him.
Mary's Magnificat says:
โMy soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.โ
Her whole life points away from herself and toward God. She teaches us that holiness is not about seeking our own glory, but about allowing God to be glorified through our lives.
Therefore, the Assumption gives us hope. Mary is already where the Church hopes to be. Her glory is a promise that those who faithfully follow Christ are destined for eternal life.
So, like Mary, let us believe when we cannot understand, serve when we are called, persevere when life is difficult, and keep our eyes fixed on heaven.
Mary began with a humble โYesโ and ended in heavenly glory.
May we also say our โyesโ to God every day, so that one day, with Mary and all the saints, we may share in the glory of Christ.
