The celebration of World Hand Hygiene 2026 was successfully conducted on May 15, 2026 at the Multipurpose 2nd Floor Annex Building, Buluan District Hospital, led by the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Committee with the active participation of personnel from the Nursing Department, Laboratory Department, X-ray/Radiology Department, Housekeeping, and Laundry Department. The activity aimed to strengthen awareness and compliance with proper hand hygiene practices as part of the hospital’s infection prevention and patient safety program.

The activity included lectures on the importance of hand hygiene, proper handwashing techniques, and prevention of healthcare-associated infections. The lecture and return demonstration were conducted by Michelle G. Almediere, RN – Designated IPC Nurse, and Pranciz S. De Leon, RN – Designated IPC Nurse. Return demonstrations were conducted among staff to assess and reinforce correct hand hygiene procedures and compliance with IPC protocols. Participants actively joined the discussions and demonstrations, showing cooperation and commitment in promoting patient safety within their respective departments. In addition, a lecture and health teaching session were conducted in the Pediatric Ward for patients’ watchers and caregivers regarding the importance of proper hand hygiene in preventing the spread of infections. Demonstrations on proper handwashing were also provided to encourage correct practice inside the ward.

One of the facilitating factors of the activity was the strong support and collaboration of the different departments and hospital administration, which contributed to the smooth flow of the program. The availability of hand hygiene supplies, visual materials, and demonstration equipment further enhanced learning and participation.

Overall, the activity was successful in promoting teamwork, improving awareness on infection prevention and control, and reinforcing proper hand hygiene practices among hospital staff, patients, and watchers. The celebration highlighted the hospital’s commitment to quality healthcare service, patient safety, and prevention of healthcare-associated infections.
