On August 22, the Northern Mindanao Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology, in partnership with Rotary Cagayan de Oro Premier, conducted BOOST: Barangay Healthcare Workers Onsite Ophthalmologic Screening Training Program at Lapasan Barangay Hall.

BOOST aims to equip barangay healthcare workers with practical knowledge and skills in basic eye screening, helping strengthen early detection and referral of patients with possible eye conditions within the community.

We are grateful to the Lapasan Barangay Health Workers and our partners for making this training possible. We welcome our community partners to share their experiences and insights in bringing accessible eye care closer to the community.

When expertise meets passion, every lesson becomes an eye-opener! 👁️

We would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to Dr. Alex Gerard Niño L. Gungab for generously sharing his time, expertise, and invaluable knowledge on Retinoblastoma from its clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation to its classification and timely targeted management.

With Retinoblastoma being particularly relevant in our setting, the knowledge he shared reminds us how important early recognition, timely diagnosis, and appropriate management are in protecting not only sight, but lives. Because when it comes to our little patients, every eye, every life is worth saving for!

👁️💙 Celebrating Sight-Saving Month!

A clear vision opens the door to a brighter future.

Last August 7, the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), the Northern Mindanao Society of Ophthalmology (NMSO), and the Department of Education (DepEd) celebrated Sight Saving Month with an interesting and educational lecture given by our Pediatric Ophthalmologist, Dr. Cielo Maria Roxas, entitled: "Bright Eyes for a Bright Future: Focusing on Eye Care for Children". The said activity was attended by the Iligan City Association of Private Elementary and Secondary Schools.

Together, let's continue to raise awareness, promote early detection and help ensure that every child enjoys the gift of clear vision.
