Our second stop was in Brunei, and it was my first time visiting the country. I was impressed. Brunei is clean, peaceful, very livable, and surrounded by so much greenery. There are open spaces everywhere, and the food is amazing too.

We were warmly welcomed by the Orthopaedic Society of Brunei Darussalam, led by Dr. Khairul Azmi Abd Kadir. Our Brunei ortho colleagues were incredibly gracious and generous in showing us their work and system. Although they are a relatively small group, their camaraderie and the system they have built are truly worth emulating.

I was especially impressed by how healthcare is provided and supported in this country.

Next stop: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I am proud and grateful to be selected as one of this year’s ASEAN Orthopaedic Association Junior Travelling Fellows. I’m traveling with five other early-career ortho surgeons from Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and, Malaysia. We’ll be visiting hospitals around Southeast Asia and meeting ortho colleagues along the way.

Our first stop was Manila 🇵🇭
I had a great time showing the group around The Medical City and PGH, enjoying Filipino food, and visiting the National Museum and Intramuros. Such a fun way to kick off the fellowship!

Huge thanks to Dr. Emmanuel Asedillo and the Department of Orthopaedics at The Medical City, as well as Dr. Lito Bautista and the UP-PGH Department of Orthopaedics, for your warm welcome, generosity, and for making our visit truly fruitful.
